General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I agree. It is indeed deplorable that the taxi attempted to run him off the road, because far more serious injury or even death could have resulted, although I did have a feeling that something happened before the camera started rolling. I've definitely seen some bad biking behaviour from...

Presto + bikeshareTO promo = unlimited bike rides all year at 1/2 price (new!)

I'm surprised that more of these types of systems haven't implemented NFC capabilities. That could very effectively use your phone as a key.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Does anyone know what the next bus garage is that's going to get the Presto installation? Or maybe they're mid-garage right now? I find it strange that the 29 Dufferin has Presto but the 63 Ossington does not.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Yeah, must be. I may not be reading the chart right, but for example it says, "Presto Installation on buses Q4 2016", but then the "on schedule" green box is actually in Q4 2017. Seems like a mistake to me.

Presto + bikeshareTO promo = unlimited bike rides all year at 1/2 price (new!)

Amen to that! I never feel bad anytime I get a free ride on the TTC because I feel like it balances out every time I lose a token!

Presto + bikeshareTO promo = unlimited bike rides all year at 1/2 price (new!)

That's a pretty cool cross-promotion. Would be even better if you could use the Presto card to unlock the bikeshare racks. That would cut down on the number of things needed to carry.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

You could also do it Tokyo style with gates separating different fare-paid zones within stations.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Well they've been so slow producing streetcars, I'm sure there's been plenty of time to squeeze in whatever they needed to do. Seriously though, it seems they must have had sections that are idle because they've been laying employees off. I can't imagine that it would be appropriate to have...

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

This is precisely the biggest problem on QQ. Pedestrians get zero guidance on when and where to cross. I used to get mad at the clueless pedestrians, but then I realized that they don't know that they're entering a bike path. The city even helpfully put the walk push button in an area that...

    Taxis and ride-sharing in Toronto

They seem to have replaced it with a new flat-rate UberPool pricing. During commute hours, anywhere in the zone shown below is a flat rate of $6: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/viewer?_ga=1.114821895.1240384865.1443203301&mid=1Y6gQ__dc9K-1KFMBYPVy8QCpw8M Could be convenient for people...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

Incorrect. If the flight number remains the same, then it is indeed a direct flight. You're right that there will be a note indicating that there is a change of plane, which usually involves a change of gauge. See Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_flight I've flown just over a...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

See, they mislead you with their "direct" terminology. Almost every time I've seen a "direct" flight marketed it involves a change of plane. For example, with United you might have a "direct" flight from LAX to CDG with a stop in Chicago. It might be an A319 from LAX to ORD and then a 767...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

"Direct flights" are one of the more obnoxious bits of airline terminology that mislead passengers. Many times in my experience, they're even worse than a normal connecting flight, as they won't hold the second leg if the first leg is late, and it's often fairly tight. As for the every...

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

I biked today also along QQ. I was going quite slowly because of one member of my group who is NOT fast. I used to get angry at the pedestrians that wandered in the bike path, but going really slowly, I realized just how subtle all the markings are. I think many of them are tourists who just...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Ultimately, I think what really needs to be revisited is parking on Bloor in a final design. It's been shown in many studies that business owners consistently over-estimate the number of customers coming by car. This isn't the far reaches of Scarborough...it's downtown in a major city. I'm...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I wonder how many are theoretically needed if they actually managed to manage this line properly.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I agree, that looks better than expected given the damage to the SUV. My guess is someone decided to pop a U-turn without looking. I've often wondered why Toronto doesn't ban U-turns on streets with streetcar tracks. Not only does it seem dangerous, but I often find drivers fail to make the...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I wouldn't exactly believe a line fit to that data since it has zero predictive value. The fit for June (where it hits a data point directly) looks like about 25 days. The preceding delivery looks to about 13-14 days and then the subsequent data looks like 38-39 days. This huge variance tells...

Metrolinx: Bombardier Flexity Freedom & Alstom Citadis Spirit LRVs

Ah, I didn't realize that this was a completely new model. I've ridden a number of Flexity products in Europe and always been very happy with them. Their are some beautiful lines in Istanbul, for example. Let's hope this is close enough that they figure it out quickly.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

This is called Bayesian evidence in the statistical world. When it comes to Bombardier, this certainly informs my expectations. You're right, this schedule did seem very achievable. After missing revised schedule after revised schedule, they offered a plan to try to make major improvements in...
