    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

I think it would be hard to enforce that because the ticket would be valid on any bus anyone could possibly uses to get between their home and the subway, which is just about everything. Unless you get a really anal driver with lots of time on their hands I can't see anyone questioning you about...

    Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

The irony is many of those houses fronting Lawrence near Yonge have been converted to rental apartments because homeowners don't want to live so close to such a busy street. A properly designed row of townhouses, with parking access from the back (e.g. not directly off Lawrence) and...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The Crosstown will be owned by Metrolinx not the TTC, although it will be fully integrated and staffed by TTC people. Metrolinx wants people to be aware that it is their product paid for by the Province.

    Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

Reading the comment section of that article sheds a lot more light on the problem. If what some of the commenters say is true, it appears that through some loophole the zoning currently allows much bigger buildings than the older stock of houses common in the neighbourhood. That means developers...

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

Damn it. SportNet bumped the Tour de France for Pan Am soccer. It's like missing an episode of Game of Thrones.

    Toronto Ridiculous NIMBYism thread

There is no guarantee that teenagers or college kids won't use water balloons. Banning kids does not solve the problem. You have to ban everyone. "Keep Our Parks Clean. Stay the **** out."

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

One of the major points of the LRT is to unlock new development potential. Right now you can't build too many high density building on one suburban location because it causes traffic chaos. The LRT will allow significant new developments to be contemplated on the Downtown core and at Steeles...

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

I think that's the key argument right there: Kayne or Nickleback? Kayne please.

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

Well that's a very elitist view. I think people create art with whatever knowledge and experience they have available to them. Just because one persons experience happens to be the streets of Detroit or Camden NJ doesn't make their art any less powerful than art created by someone with a degree...

    TORONTO Pan Am Sign

I like the sign but in person it's already starting to come apart at the seams. Someone needs to recreate it in aluminum and heavy duty glass. As for location I'd say leave it roughly where it is.

    Toronto 2024 Olympic Bid (Dead)

In the big picture the economics are irrelevant. Money is spent and money is made with or without hosting large international events. Cities host large international events primarily for two reasons: for international prestige; and to provide a firm deadline to get major infrastructure projects...

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

My wife works in retail and at her store it was very busy the week before PanAm because everyone was stocking up to get out of the city. This last week it was slow because everyone in the neighbourhood is up in Muskoka. Overall revenues will be relatively the same as every other summer, but if...

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

If I had a choice between paying $90 to see Kayne West and Pitbull or paying $90 to see some new artists from the Caribbean, Central America or South America - I'd take the second option. Discovering new artists reflects the spirit of the Pan Am games. If Kayne and Pitbull want to have their own...

Should the "Metro" Concept be Revived for the GTHA?

The problem with amalgamation (or city size) is that different municipal services work best at different scales. Some services need to be dealt with at a very local scale and having a regional government look after them is cumbersome and inefficient. Other services need to be dealt with at a...

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

Yes. In fact you can buy tickets for any event at any venue box office (e.g athletic tickets from the tennis venue box office etc.).

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

If that's the case if then we shouldn't let the Province run it either because MP's from Northern Ontario would simply vote against anything for the GTA, The Regional Government was set up to take care of things of regional importance. If the councilors who sit on the regional board are only...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The Region of Peel council is sort of like the Canadian Senate. They collect paychecks but they don't actually do much. The HMLRT is exactly the sort of thing a Regional government should be spearheading. The Province and Mississauga are running the project only because the Region is impotent.

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Which is why projects with regional impacts should be made by the Region or the Province, not by local governments.

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Most importantly, the TRCA won't permit anything to be built that impedes the flow of flood water. If they do it will greatly increase the risk of flooding in the downtown core (which is also in the floodplain). Therefore the tracks would need to be elevated in such a way that the piers don't...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Metrolinx isn't in the business of building local transit. They are building a regional transit system to get people around the GTA efficiently. Brampton can build anything they want with their own money, but Metronlinx just wants to get to its GO station.
