TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Ottawa went with Alstom and last I checked, it is in Ontario.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Unless you're a resident of Quebec, you shouldn't any problems. The way the fare integration system works for Ottawa & Gatineau, it requires Ontario residents to use Ottawa fare media in both cities and for Quebec residents to use Gatineau fare media in both cities, so Presto readers in Ottawa...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

At these numbers, I wonder if UP is going to get folded into RER/SmartTrack.

    What is RER?

RER isn't so much a specific project. It's more of a vision that we're working towards incrementally. Right now they're working on projects like double tracking GO lines and grade separating rail crossings/diamonds to allow for more reliable service and to allow for two-way all day service on...

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Build the damn thing and build it now, community be damned. As an Ontario taxpayer I would not be happy if $400M+ were wasted on a completely unnecessary tunnel just to satisfy a few hundred wealthy NIMBYs. We can't let these NIMBYs hold progress hostage.

Not to mention we're not a totalitarian country where the government can do things very quickly without democratic input or respect for worker's rights. Pretty easy to build megaprojects when you can use tear down houses 1-2-3 and use slave labour!

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Kingston is even smaller than Guelph and adopted a farecard system in 2008 and it's worked well.

I myself will be doing a Kingston (Ont) -> Tel Aviv trip that involves passing through Union next winter. (Kingston -> Union on VIA, then UPX to Pearson, then flying from Pearson to Ben Gurion). Queen's University is actually planning to post university staff to Union & Pearson this coming...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

We're finally hitting the mass openings phase. UPX will start everything. Off peak GO service is coming incrementally starting next year, Spadina & ION opens in 2017, Ottawa's Phase 1 LRT opens in 2018. Finch & Eglinton open up in 2020, GO electrification starts being completed in the early...

They should expropriate the damn thing at this rate.

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

I find it odd they have all these amenities, like beer and coffee, for people waiting for trains... when the maximum wait for the train isn't very long. 15 minutes between departures, and isn't the schedule such that the trains will layup in the stations for 5 minutes before departure anyway...

For those talking about how UPX would allow travellers to spend long periods of time in Toronto without going outside... well... PATH is a labyrinth and can be very hard to navigate if you're not familiar with it.

Ontario "Network Southwest" mass transport improvement plan

You hear people talk about it occasionally but it's nothing serious. LRT would be very pie in the sky for a city like Kingston. It's got a population of 125,000 people and not much growth projected--by 2040 it will only be 145,000. It's not really needed as congestion is really low. LRT...

Ontario "Network Southwest" mass transport improvement plan

Eh? Kingston LRT funding request? Kingston has no such plans. Kingston is undergoing a pretty dramatic expansion of its transit system with new express buses and significant frequency increases, but it's not talked about much outside of the city. It's quite amazing how much transit has improved...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Bombardier always f*cks things up. Look at the delays with the streetcars, the mess with the Montreal metro cars, etc. Because so many Canadian cities just automatically hand the job to them they don't need to do a good job so they don't bother. Ottawa went with Alstom, and the vehicles they're...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

That's Toronto's fault for not managing them properly. A well designed signal priority system can give greens >95% of the time.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Can it be explained by the dirt/guck that gets everywhere in early spring?

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

My point is that people are complaining that "half-hourly weekdays, hourly evenings and weekends, largely through new partially-inhabited subdivisions" makes for a horrible bus route. In Ottawa nobody would complain that a bus route like that is bad, because the whole city is like that. It was...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Almost all LRT systems have a top speed of 80km/h... Ottawa is special at 100km/h but that's because their system is more of a light metro.
