What's with all the anxiety in today's youth?

They are far less politically correct in the UK. I don't think 'oriental' is acceptable in Canada. You know, that would imply a euro-centric point of reference. We are not allowed that. Interesting though, is 'asia' really 'east' of us or is it 'west' of us?? We live on a globe, it all...

LOL, yes that is nimbyism! No question.

Principled opposition isn't nimbyism though. Nimbyism is inherently self-interested. I do believe there is nimbyism in Toronto, don't get me wrong, just that it's not necessarily what is driving any concerns for our built form. ... says the guy who's favourite city is Paris! Try and suggest...

I would agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't think we are in danger of being constricted by any one type of built form though, do you? Look at City Place, Southcore, Liberty Village, the Waterfront etc., etc. These areas are all developing as high rise form. Yonge Street is reaching ever...

I'd argue that the state of disrepair is about a lack of admiration. Most of those landlords are Ksun-like individuals that see no value in the existing built form. Many are worse in not seeing any value in any built form.

I'm not suggesting there can't be change or evolution. There must be! I'm just arguing that there's a fundamental difference of paradigm between Ksun's version of 'raise it all because it's not as good as somewhere else' vs 'let's take a look and see what we have that's worth building on...

Will Toronto develop an iconic signature food or food(s) like other cities?

Have you ever really analyzed what Poutine is?... Most foodies allow that there is more to admire and enjoy than just 'haute cuisine'. There's room for it all in a diverse city, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Chicago is known for hot dogs for gawd's sake, among other things. Relax, it's...

No. You are applying a straight jacket to the concept of urban. Small towns, villages and yes low-rise, inner-city neighbourhoods can all be urban. It's not just about high rise density, if it were City Place would be some sort of urban ideal... it isn't. It seems to me that some here want...

What's with all the anxiety in today's youth?

In some ways I would agree. It is a fast paced world due to technology. Everybody's multi-tasking. Attention spans are suffering. It's a new era and maybe we just haven't figured out how to negotiate it yet, we haven't caught up. Regardless, a sense of balance seems to be becoming ever more...

For me, there are just too many ideas going on at the same time. I feel it could have stood for some further editing.

Not true. Forget the whole 'super density' label. It's all relative anyway. What is super dense for here isn't for Asia, obviously. Who cares. Bottom line, it isn't smart to keep loading on density that hasn't been planned for or accommodated for. Density that is too high a burden on the...

I really don't like this tower. I want to, I really do. The quality and execution all look fine to my untrained eye. I guess it's just not my cup of tea. I absolutely love this at street level though.

This is such an important point. I get that we want density, it is a good want, but not if we aren't planning responsibly for it. The private sector seems to be driving the density side of the equation just fine but the planning part requires long term vision, investment and 'city building'...

What's with all the anxiety in today's youth?

Even today? The 'helicopter parent'/'sandwich generation' phenomenons among whites are pretty pervasive these days.

Be careful when throwing stones. Remember, Toronto voted for Ford. Enough said.

What's with all the anxiety in today's youth?

    A) I thought we had established that the 'tough love' value system was one of past generations not of the current one, even among whites. B) You might also have to factor in socio-economic factors owing that disadvantaged demographic groups might live more often in multi-generational...

I"m unhappy with the aesthetic choices here too. Where is the sense of whimsy, romance, fun of being by the water? It's like this was designed for an office park along a highway in Mississauga. This design style turns its back on the lake as surely as the massing does. What a shame that...

What's with all the anxiety in today's youth?

Do you have anything relevant to say at all? I get it, you've got a bias against 'white' people and elderly people. That's clear but I'm just not sure what bearing any of this has on differences in how generations are raised? Please quote where I said only 'generic anglo Canadian types' -...
