    Montréal Transit Developments

The rem de l'est cancellation was a disaster for mtl. At the same time, it's fun to watch the pompous Legault flail around in his low polling numbers. At least we can all enjoy watching that. But the PQ is even worse. in any case, Montréal had better separate from QC and do it soon, given how...

    Montréal Transit Developments

As of yesterday, Toronto seems to have a supportive partner in Ontario, but Montreal is now completely at odds with Quebec (in many more ways than just transit planning).

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

What's with all the "quotation" "marks"?

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

Has anyone seen any enforcement of the existing 2+ HOV lanes in the past few years? I have not, and regularly see lots of SOBs - I mean SOVs - in that lane when I drive on the 403.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Haha not surprised that BlogTO is incorrect on that. I have a feeling they think all new subway trains are called "Toronto Rockets".

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The BlogTO article also mentions that the new trains are likely to be an order of BBD/now Alstom TRs, as opposed to another model. "While not explicitly mentioned in Monday's announcement, it is almost certain that the new trains will be a new order of the Toronto Rocket trains already serving...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

You're moving the goalposts. First Toronto isn't dense enough to compare to Berlin, then it's actually denser, but then its history is incomparible. I'm all for a line 4 extension, but it's still going to be arduous to get to and from multiple points within the core. Ideally LV and Spadina...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

You are wrong. Toronto has a larger population than Berlin in a smaller area, and therefore is denser than Berlin.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

These gaps you have listed are still enormous, and the point being made here is that there are no plans on the books to build any other subway lines in the core. If we compare to NYC, Berlin, London, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, etc etc, we see that most of these networks don't follow a grid. You're...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

That still doesn't amount to much coverage of the core, and the OL stop spacing is large. Dense sections of the city, like Parkdale and Cabbagetown will remain underserved.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Too bad they didn't at least update the info screens.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Great point. There's still so little truly rapid transit in the core, and the Ontario line alone won't add much.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but you're right that tram lines in some European cities run fast, as fast as the posted speed limit through intersections. Berlin comes to mind. Those trams really fly, even around curves.

On that page they refer to the Green Line (pictured) as light rail. In contrast, they refer to the red, orange and blue lines as heavy rail.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

San Francisco refers to the system as Muni Metro(politan) Light Rail. They count some of their stops as subway stations, but on this official page they don't mischaracterize the whole system as subway...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Who said anything about hydrogen? The Nippon Sharyo trains used by the UPX could only be configured with DMU or EMU traction power. And the poster with whom you were debating was referring to battery powered trains with charging stations.

Ever ridden the UPX farm tractor? It's pretty jerky when the train shifts gears.

    Montréal Transit Developments

A bit more detail from CDPQi: https://www.railwayage.com/passenger/light-rail/cdpq-infra-provides-update-on-montreals-rem/ - Network is 85% complete, although tracks and catenary still need to be installed on parts of the route, including in the Mont-Royal tunnel. - 86/106 trains delivered. -...
