    Montréal Transit Developments

Sounds like whatever it is, it will be a downgrade from REM. But I'll hope for the best.

Thanks for these. Not surprised that CBC would have way better renders. Their digital platform is the best of any media outlet in the country, and they know what they're doing. Never mind the potato quality from the weak minds at Postmedia/The Gazette.

    Toronto 656 Danforth Avenue | 160.73m | 49s | Del Boca Vista | Studio JCI

I don't understand the logic here either. The north side of the block from Eaton, most of the way to Pape is now a barren, derelict stretch. It would have been better to retain businesses along the stretch for as long as possible.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Glad to hear it. Last thing I'll say on this topic is that I don't mean to single out Dan specifically. It is common on the forum however for responses to be condescending or just plain rude and I disagree with that.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I read it. GO may well be moving on the issue, regardless, your response was unnecessarily condescending.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

What's with the ascerbic response? It is unreasonable to expect people to be aware of GO's internal policy discussions, as you are insinuating.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

They're too long, they were used inconsistently, and they became inaccurate over time.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

One more reason to just call it Line 3 when it opens. Bloor-Danforth and especially Yonge-University-Spadina were bad nomenclature.

The Netherlands actually screwed something up? Who's gonna tell that NotJustBikes guy?

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Several orders of magnitude costlier? Are you saying that it's at least 100x more expensive to run a grade-separated metro than an LRT?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I agree that GO should speed up its level-boarding conversion plans. At least boarding a couple steps into a GO train for a quick commute is nowhere near as bad as the awful VIA platform at Union. Climbing up and down those steps with a 25kg bag sucks and really does feel like the 1900s experience.

    Toronto Concord Canada House | 231.97m | 74s | Concord Adex | Arcadis

I get your other city comparisons but Dubai is one ugly mofo. It looks tacky and it's also boring as hell. Canada House looks like the other uninspired, low-grade condo buildings throughout the city, though I'm with you in that I think it's at least far from the worst.

Bamboo Airways still has them! A nice airline too.

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Ah I see. Apologies, I had made that assumption from EastYorkTTCFan's post. I am not disagreeing that there is probably a policy in place that would explain the frequent braking on the streetcar. Thanks for your input there. On the other hand, there is a pretty clear problem on the forum where...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

I didn't realize you were a TTC employee. Is the policy contained in an internal memo or are you saying it's just communicated by word of mouth to operators? Would the TTC confirm this policy if a request were made?

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Yep, even on the protected ROWs they absolutely crawl, especially near the Exhibition grounds. And on King St the dwell times are insane, with someone always trying to board at the 4th time the doors have reopened. I also remember the A/CLRVs moving a fair bit faster than the Flexities when...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Those physics being faster deceleration for buses? In the event of a sudden stop, passengers will get to experience flight for a short time in either vehicle. In any case, I just want streetcars to run at or close to the road speed limit. If the driver anticipates a pedestrian getting ready to...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Good point, I'll watch next time I'm on the 511 and see if this is the reason. Do buses do this?

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

You're absolutely right, a so-called safety rule would be hard to abolish because no one wants to be held responsible for a derailment, etc. But riders, both residents and visitors do notice how unnecessarily slowly our streetcars run. My personal fave is a behind-schedule streetcar driver...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Yep, everything about TTC streetcar operations is garbage. It's Kafkaesque. Still, I'm cautiously optimistic that with the new, not-awful mayor and the recently-released data on the King St trip times, plus the impending ouster of Rick Leary, that some sanity will be restored to the network in...
