Maybe random was the wrong word. I just think condo's would be better off if they all had a third party to manage them, where qualifications could be sought out and vetted. I mean - think of those condos in queen west - entire buildings are probably being managed by 22 year olds!

Well, in that case - it probably should be tile. Something about Terrazzo screams public school to me.

If all the units in the building aren't sold I can imagine him wanting to hold onto power of the building until he's wholly devested of his original investment. Giving control of an entire tower over to random residents has never seemed like an entirely great idea to me.

Well, at least one side will be easy to clean.

No idea - though I imagine a weak canadian dollar and an economy that's turning towards recession can't be helping matters. Plus Mirvish is probably pretty cautious after the whole One King West debacle with Stinson.

True, though I wish they'd gone the same route as Aura and opened up the retail while the tower was still under construction. As for landscaping - half the granite pavers on Yonge have already been installed - they've been installing it patchwork over the last year - it seems like an insanely...

I always think of launch as shovels in the ground - but to each their own. The layouts are probably pretty consistent floor to floor - the buildings are both pretty rectangular - the 'shimmer' in the building might add/subtract a meter or two to each unit - but that's probably not what's slowing...

Anyone know why Nordstrom Rack is opening in 2018? 2+ years seems like a long time to fit the space out.

I'm with ya. I wish CF used the same architects that just did the Hudsons Bay / Saks renovations - the new tile in the mall feels like it belongs in a City Community Centre. If yorkville can afford granite sidewalks, the Eaton Centre can afford better tile.

I imagine it'll be a while yet - they haven't even started sales. I'm guessing the project is going through severe budget engineering right now in order to keep costs down.

I'm talking about the space as it currently stands. And the blank walls are only a small portion of what's wrong inside this space. The point is - there doesn't have to be blank walls! The stairs should have been put further East in the space to allow H&M to open out into the atrium. The entry...

    Toronto Eaton Centre (Ongoing Renewal) | ?m | ?s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

We're totally doing circles here. The point was that Toronto is increasingly ignoring design in favour of the cheapest possible solution. A fantastic space like the original atrium has been filled in largely by blank facing walls that aren't doing the mall any favours. And while it's nice that...

I wasn't referring to the new retailers blank walls - but rather the blank wall behind the ramp - as well H&M's blank wall.

The point is - more retail isn't mutually exclusive of better architecture. In fact, good architecture often means a better and more efficient use of space. The atrium in the Eaton Centre is a great example of wasted space- look at that panorama photo, half of it's dedicated to blank walls and...

    Toronto Eaton Centre (Ongoing Renewal) | ?m | ?s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

Armour is pretty bang on - the panorama of the interior of the Eaton Center above is a great example of what's wrong with Toronto's design sensibilities right now. That space used to be pretty spectacular - now it's a complete mess. CF had an opportunity to return some of the magic to the mall...

Went by earlier today - it looks like Roots is renovating and cutting their existing space in half. That map above just got a bit more credible.

I think the entirety of heritage preservation is a confused issue. There are many buildings that somehow don't qualify - the bata shoe building - and then ones like this which are mediocre at best that do.

If Apple doesn't end up on the North end - I could easily see them moving into the Atmosphere space once the tower is built out - the historic façade would totally be up their alley.

Am I the only one who thinks the original building was on the ugly side of historic? The combination of brown and red brick just don't do it for me. The dark grey is a big improvement over the original.
