Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Found some new images here: http://www.asphaltplanet.ca/ON/hwy_401_images/Hwy401_HurontarioCons_images.htm It's kind of sad that the the left express HOV lane will sit vacant for about a decade. All that work and no use. Phase II won't begin until 2017 at the earliest, and I would assume the...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

From the ultimate designs I saw, express will be 2 general lanes 1 HOV lane. Silly if you ask me. I don't think the HOV lanes will open until at least one other phase of the project is completed, as opening 2KM of HOV lanes won't do much to help traffic issues.

I believe Quebec has more controlled-access highways, at least in terms of total KMs. Also Ontario is huge, and northern and southern Ontario are quite different places. There are some that think the two should split and form separate provinces due to these differences. I don't see a paradox...

There is nothing in Ontario's southern highways program that says the next phase will start anytime soon: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/pubs/highway-construction/southern-highway-2012/expansion-projects.shtml#s2 The stretch of the 401 between Mississauga and Milton remains a priority on...

Quality over quantity. Quebec may have more highways but they typically are poorly maintained. Ontario has very few highways relative to it's population and area but they are generally well-maintained. Would you rather have 1 big, properly-maintained highway running through a city or 3-4...

For us in southern Ontario, its far faster to travel through the US and go below the Great Lakes to reach western Canada than go above them. The US routes are straight freeways too.

The Mavis Road overpass was built with easy expansion in mind, but I don't think it was designed for the HOV lanes that are no planned for this stretch. (They require a full shoulder and buffer strip.) Great pics/video by the way!

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Usually yes, but this stretch is near the airport. High mast lighting might not mix with it which is why it may still have conventional lighting. -Fun fact: The last M-C Freeway sign on the entire 401 is located on this stretch. It can be seen westbound on the median dividing the collector and...

Took these pics on a flight from London to Toronto on Monday: 401-Hurontario Between Hurontario and 410 At 410 I was on one of those crappy propeller planes and they didn't allow any carry-ons (had to be stored above or in the cargo hold) so I couldn't use my camera... These are from my...

Ya, I wish work on the 401 in Mississauga continued westward as soon as the Hurontario project is completed. ----- Made a timelapse of the 401 at night in Toronto. Moves a lot faster at midnight compared to noon hour! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlLrbVh0yas

I made this timelapse drive of the 401 on a Saturday at noon hour, trying to show the expansive highway but got stuck in traffic near the 427. As an out-of-towner, I have no idea how people drive on the 401 every day, especially at rush hour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miErXMuzxAA

New images of the 401/Hurontario construction. The thing looks massive, more like a a runway than a road. http://asphaltplanet.ca/ON/hwy_401_images/Hwy401_HurontarioCons_images.htm#May13

I'd love to see HOV lanes on the entire eastern half of the 403. Starting as it does now from the Freeman interchange (403-407ETR-QEW), then continuing on the co-signed 403-QEW route to the 403 split, and running on the rural 403 section between the QEW and 407 before being joined with the HOV...

K/W is growing like a weed and Waterloo Region is expected to swell massively once Greater Toronto's growth reaches the greenbelt. A Highway 7 freeway to Guelph is needed and it will become the main feeder into the Halton-Peel freeway if I'm not mistaken. A freeway north of London is not...

The new Detroit River International Crossing has gotten presidential approval: http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/04/11/historic-moment-as-dric-bridge-gets-long-awaited-u-s-presidential-permit/ Construction is hoped to start just as the 401 extension winds down. Hopefully there are no more...
