    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

And yet the Red Hill was built. We can’t seriously see a tunnel as both too deep AND too disruptive on the surface. With that said, I’ll see if I can find what the grade was going to be for the ICTS tunnel somewhere; bear in mind though that ICTS was going to be a straight shot in line with...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

or a tunnel. That was the approach ICTS was intended to take, and it wasn’t bad at all. If we WERENT dealing with escarpment protections a surface alignment is wholly viable technically and much cheaper, and with thing was they are it’s worth comparing the pain level of the assessment that is...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

My assumption is that any escarpment crossing will need a new right of way. Reasonable grades would be quite possible with either a diagonal crossing or a tunnel.

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I’m not even convinced that the grand planning full corridor approach would be needed for the escarpment. Starting with just an escarpment crossing ending at a Mohawk College bus terminal which the western mountain routes could all get redirected into would do real good, and open the door to...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Thought it worth mentioning that the south terminal re-evaluation is going to the Regional Planning & Public Work Committee on December 5th. Documents should be up around the 28th. I'll say that as much as my assumption is that this is really about relocating to Ainslie and possibly...

    Montréal Transit Developments

I'm going to take a wild guess that CDPQ is going to propose and prioritize a REM like line for the third link... and more or less leave it to the city to do something cheaper than the tram on Rene-Levesque. Even setting aside the merits of this as a project, the politics of bailing out both...

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Honestly, what is the alternative if we accept that Agincourt should move, and try to avoid using Pickering, or greenbelt lands in general? It seems to me like the options for CP boil down to: roughly Pickering, if no necessarily the airport lands staying at Agincourt going much farther east...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I have to imagine that they'd be very tempted to make it a SSM - Sudbury - North Bay service as either a J train or an actual connection to the Northlander.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

They have not clarified. My guess is that it's A: actually still being evaluated and B: pretty certain to be the Northlander backing out of Timmins for some kind of meet with the Polar Bear.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

I like that concept of moving Agincourt out to Pickering a lot

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

I'm starting to think we should cost abandoning the Union loop and rebuilding as a through running tunnel that surface On Bay Street somewhere south of King.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

OTOH if one mode is going to not be truly co-located, its the airport I'd be inclined to move. And I think the choice in Picking would realistically be an airport transport hub with mainline rail at a distance, or a ground transport hub with an airport link an APM could handle nicely.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Meh; more sense than the airport anyway, but we are talking about major interchange in the middle of a mostly protected greenfield area. Potentially useful yes, but barring the airport and urban boundary changes probably not the best option. I'd put it in the same bucket I do the airport: just...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

End of the day I think it's abundantly clear that Waterloo Region has both a desperate need for more service hours, and an awful lot of residents who's mental picture of the Region is as things were 20 or more years ago. I am somewhat hopeful that GRT might be able to become something of a...

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

I mean in fairness, if the goal is a general transport hub rather than just another airport link, a station at the rail corridor and an APM link probably does make more sense than a mainline branch to the terminal.

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Re the discussion of a 413 link, it occurs to me that there is a potentially meaningful saving to be had by CP taking the Halton sub north of Milton instead of cutting a wholly new corridor (though the actual 413's avoidance of Georgetown might make the new route preferable). At the end of the...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

If we go down the interlining path, I'm a lot less interested in the wye than through running at Sheppard / McCowan so Sheppard trains can terminate at STC and BD at Agincourt and letting Sheppard trains through run up to York U and Vaughan (frankly I'm fine with this one being imperfect, with a...

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

In fairness to the media, those were actually UTDC renders from the ICTS development program... albeit unsolicited ones that even UTDC documents admit provoked a strongly negative reaction from City staff well before they went public and hurt the streetcar program.

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

It would make much more sense to house it in Metrolinx than a wholly new agency, but the big obstacle remains the amount of yards, terminals and general operational infrastructure the Class 1s have tied directly into the corridors inside of the areas that need bypassing. It might make sense to...

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Before we open the door to a another full corridor using the 413 I feel the need to point out that Malton to Woodbridge is not one of the places that has issues getting a pair of CP track alongside CN. It's just possible that all the visions of freeing up the midtown line and getting CP out of...
