    VIA Rail

I mean even if the White River service remains RDCs, re-timing and meeting ONR at North Bay without a through service would be a real improvement... though I think the ideal (and most realistic form of improvement) would be Federal subsidy for ONR to take over operation, with direct...

    VIA Rail

If I'm perfectly honest, I'm not really convinced that the disposal of the other RDCs was the best move; bringing them back in the corridor was always a bit of a stretch but taken as a whole nothing modern is as good at what they do. Replacing the Quebec trains with them and looking at a...

    VIA Rail

a simple venture baggage car would obviously be a very reasonable project, but if there really is that need for a backup HEP unit a cabbage unit with HEP doesn’t seem like that big an ask either.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

I’d honestly be rather surprised if the PCs didn’t dangle something to do with the Milton line come the next election… Sheppard honestly doesn’t hold all that much political capital after all the nonsense in Scarborough, and 2026 will be somewhat early to start talking about it as a follow up...

    VIA Rail

I don’t believe that Caltrain will have full separation, though those are KISSes. Noises have been made that there is room for more flexibility, especially by the FRA… and I absolutely agree in principle we need to have the fight for more sensible regulations. The issue is whether THIS is...

    VIA Rail

Agreed from the regulatory perspective (although OC Transpo has basically full temporal separation, to Transport may not be as instant as you'd hope), but that doesn't address the small, isolated and unique fleet being a bigger financial hurdle. I really have to agree that in the real world (if...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

My thinking is that yes, that is absolutely something VIA should do, but given all the factors in play I have real doubts that they can, or would. What tempts me at the moment is tacking a few more Charger sets on to the ONR order with the intent of operating exactly that type of stripped down...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I really don't even know where to begin on this, but suffice to say it grotesquely misses the local context of Fergus. Pinebush really is quite well positioned for where Cambridge's growth actually is, and integrates well enough with Ion that my actual position is that all efforts should be...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

The big question to me is whether there end up being any dual modes included.... I'm ever more fond of seriously contemplating electrifying the whole of Kitchener with a Bramalea - Georgetown gap given how long any of the credible options for OLE through Brampton are going to take.

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

If we're going to go with a google drive I'd suggest a naming convention that encapsulates that information on a per folder basis, with a folder for each study... above that level organization can probably be a bit more ad hoc, but in the long run something more wiki like is probably desirable...

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

The Cambridge / Fergus option is a perfect example of why that isn't a perfect delineation. The work was done as an outside comment with the presumption of Metrolinx implementation, largely from the original Milton extension concept, and the region has no particular ability to move forward on...

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

The Cambridge links you really want to not lose track of are the main Stage 2 report and it's appendices. TBH I'd suggest saving those if you're intersted in them, because I found the link by way of google and can't find reference on any website... I rather suspect they only continue to exist by...

100% onboard for the subway side of this, but I'm somewhat tenuous about the realignment of LRT to Finch...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

If we're going to start taking bets on opening my money is on December 2024, with Finch in late summer or early fall.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

My best guess is that they're intended first and foremost for cannibalization. Even compared to the SRT fleet Detroit is small. It's exactly the kind of operation that can patch things together on an ad-hoc basis for a very long time.

    VIA Rail

Hard disagree on CP. This is precisely the kind of project to use to get a proper legislative framework to force freight carrier cooperation. Bear in mind that the full proposal on this doesn't do very much VIA funding of CP, it mostly just gives up on a long section of less than ideal VIA owned...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Y’know… as far as Christmas trains go… Allandale Waterfront over to some kind of Christmas village arrangement at Collingwood would be pretty nice.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Ugh, looks like every agenda update breaks links. https://pub-regionofwaterloo.escribemeetings.com/Meeting.aspx?Id=ff159491-f8d6-4200-9aa6-cd7faf487096&Agenda=Agenda&lang=English&Item=29&Tab=attachments should work for the moment

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

I'll add that it's also one of the real bits of strangeness in ROPA 6 after the minister got his claws into it. The Regional Intensification Corridors as the Region talked about them were in more places and looked more like the Stage 3 concepts that have popped up before.
