    2018 Provincial Election Transit Promises

I love how clean and elegant the European transit designs are. I can only imagine the mess of signs, signals and markings there would be if that same location was built to North American standards.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

In other places if you pay a cash fare on a bus/tram, you get a RFID ticket (ie the Presto Tickets). They should have that on buses, so as to keep the system consistent. Your fare will always be a Presto card (including future credit card/app) or Presto ticket, which you must have with you when...

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

Passed it this morning, and all traffic was using the new northbound lanes, with construction happening on the old southbound lanes.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Province is doing a 2-day online consultation for e-scooters, finishing tomorrow: http://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view.do?postingId=30207&language=en Looks like the proposal is for a 5-year pilot to allow e-scooters to operate similar to bikes/e-bikes.

    Roads: Roundabouts

As a driver, cyclist, and pedestrian, I love roundabouts. Mainly because you only have to stop if someone else is in the way, and they're based on yielding behavior, not a green light/right-of-way one. They also make things clear and predictable for those who know how to use them, and for those...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

The ride is smoother, but I think that's more because of the track and operating environment. If a TTC streetcar was compatible with and running on the ION tracks, it would probably be the exact same. The ION LRVs have wider curves, 2-point track switches, and don't have to accelerate and...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Rode the LRT today, was nice, enjoyed the station spacing, and signal priority, though I agree it ran painfully slow sometimes. Rode 4 of the LRVS, only one of them hit a car, so not bad I guess.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

It would be nice if this was a setting you could manage on your Presto account, as to whether you want you balance displayed or not, and maybe even whether you want it read out or not (that should be an option for visually-impaired). I personally have no need to see my balance, as I have...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

You can see it at the end of the CityNews YouTube clip. It looks the same as MBTA, but with the colours inverted. Though I'd imagine a "T" in a circle is probably not a very unique logo.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

In my experience, on highways where the speed limit is 120-130, you rarely see traffic speeding, or even hitting the limit. I've noticed this most recently in the Netherlands, and in the UAE, where on a 120 km/h highway, it was rare to see anyone exceed it, and many people drove slower at...

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

I like all these discussions about roundabouts, and personally love roundabouts. But like anything else, they can be done right, and can be done wrong. Maybe we can move these discussions into a new thread? "Roundabouts in the GTA" or something to continue the discussion.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I like that path, I use it every now and then taking bike share out of Union Station, and have also noticed the snow on it. Luckily it's pretty wide, and you can scoot onto the sidewalk if needed. I also hope they clear it better. Anyone know if the path is eventually supposed to meet up with...

    Toronto Bike Share

Would be nice if they expanded a bit to the Stockyards area at St Clair and Keele, maybe west to Runnymede. Cycling conditions are not great, but I've definitely seen a lot more cyclists and pedestrians in the area.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

I was thinking of that too, but I don't think there is anything there that is specifically prohibited by the HTA, unless someone can point something out.

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

Nice, though I would also be better if Google removed the old Bloor and Dundas alignment/bridges.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

I think the biggest thing that would help when permanent, is get rid of the solid green indication (or stop using it outside of the times that taxis are permitted). While signs are an issue, users generally respect traffic signals. Have right turn arrows, the white bars for streetcars, a signal...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I agree that would be ideal, but isn't a Dundas West station and loop reconstruction many years/decades away? Was there ever anything beyond that Metrolinx (?) concept done? K/Q/Q/R is already scheduled for next year, so I see zero chance that they would be done together.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I think the tone for child fare should be the reader saying the word "child" clear and loud. That may introduce some shame to someone who is obviously not a child, and could be an easy fix (although who knows with Presto) that may help a little bit.

GTHA Regional Transit Amalgamation Discussion: Superlinx/Subway Upload

I really wish we went for the Zurich transit model, also known as a transit alliance or transit federation. All transit (trams, buses, trains, cable cars, boats, rack railways) in the Zurich canton fall under one fare and overall planning coordination system, the ZVV. The canton is equivalent in...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

I could be wrong, but I believe the connection track on Leslie was built by the Leslie Barns construction contractors (Pomerleau?), and not the the typical TTC crews/contractors. The track base design is also unique due to the soft earth conditions underneath, with a reinforced concrete base...
