I totally agree with the analogy that we only have ourselves to blame. If we don't have a vision or a agreed upon plan - then of course we're not going to get any dollars from the feds or province to do anything. London missed out on getting freeways, and now we're going to miss out with rapid...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

No timetable for fully connecting Highway 8 to Highway 401 https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/no-timetable-for-fully-connecting-highway-8-to-highway-401-1.3681570

Based on London's civic election results, the BRT plan seems unlikely in it's current state. 7 councilors for the plan 6 councilors + mayor against the plan 1 councilor abstaining (at least so far)

Bottlenecks are the worst. What can be done to fix this? Keep widening to the north? That way traffic has more time to merge / thin out with each exit.

Kind of off topic but that is no longer the case. The McCormick factory site is being cleaned up and it will be demolished soon for new development. The old Kellog plant is now Canada's largest indoor 'adventure park', plus it has virtual reality, arcades, ropes and all the like. There's also...

BRT is THE election issue in London - 3 of the 4 major mayoral candidates are against it. ...And with ranked ballots this time, vote split is impossible. Those dead set against BRT would make their second and third choices for the other two candidates who are against BRT as well. The only way...

Meanwhile, on the 401... Via https://www.reddit.com/r/toronto/comments/9j279u/truck_on_fire_on_401_east_this_morning/?st=jmjpcds9&sh=1d09ff2b I'm surprised the whole highway wasn't shut down like it was during those propane explosions 10 years ago

The plan is very flawed but better than nothing. Mayor is just one vote on council. Who gets elected as councilors matters 14x as much as mayor vote ...Until Douggie reduces London's council as well haha

If not BRT, then what? Four mayoral candidates explain their transit plans https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/london-ontario-votes-2018-brt-transit-plan-mayoral-candidates-1.4818762 https://www.reddit.com/r/londonontario/comments/9gkfqt/if_not_brt_then_what_four_mayoral_candidates/

Anyone take advantage of dollar beers today? Most places are probably sold out of them by now. Here's my haul - got a 12 pack of each PC variety on for a buck a beer. Never had them before and never planned on ever buying them until they were $1. Good time to try them out lol

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

Is it just me, or does it seem excessive to build the 418 interchanges with 401 and 407 with complete access? I guess it's good for redundancy. I'd assume the 401 EB to 407 EB via 418 would be very lightly used. The 35/115 is close and is diagonal... more direct? It's also free... Same thing...

I was in Windsor for Canada Day. The 401 is such a different animal there.

It would have also cut up communities and caused a lot of segregation like Chicago. I am happy some projects weren't done like the Spadina Expressway. Extensions of the Richview and 404 to where the two would have met would have been nice however. 401 might not have had as many lanes as it...

The Toronto Region Board of Trade is calling for a vertical expansion of Highway 401 near Toronto Pearson International Airport to help alleviate gridlock. https://www.680news.com/2018/06/26/highway-401-ease-gridlock-board-trade/ ----- At the 427 for instance, the 401 goes from 18 to 10 lanes...

On 401 EB just before the 403 split in Woodstock, an information sign was installed letting you know about travel times. This helps you decide whether to take the 401 or 403 to Greater Toronto if there is a backup on one of them. It's a welcome addition! Location...

PCs stated “We are committed to building a barrier and improving safety on the 401 West.” http://lfpress.com/news/local-news/truckers-divided-on-concrete-median-barriers So they didn't specify if it's concrete or if there will be widening.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Yep. I think the PCs said they wanted a concrete median, so plans may change now that they are in power.
  20. Haljackey

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Nope. No widening, no concrete median. Seems like a waste - may as well use the rebuild as an opportunity to upgrade the thing. Website: http://hwy401reconstruction.ca/
