    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

From what I know the original bridge will go from 6 lanes to 4 lanes one-way. The current bridge does not have any shoulders so I would assume the travel lanes may be widened a bit and have shoulders. The innermost lane could be HOV as well who knows? The new span would be built with a similar...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Exactly. As an out-of-towner I'm still planning to use the 401 to get to places like Barrie, Ottawa, etc from London, Windsor, K-W, etc and vice-versa. Since Greater Toronto sprawled and started using the 401 as a commuting highway rather than a bypass, us long-distance travelers need another...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Not everyone can afford tolls and transit isn't a viable option for many people. This would never happen- there would be too much resistance. Also if it ever did, expect city streets to get even more congested by people wanting to avoid the tolls. This highway would get long distance folks out...

401 Widening between Tilbury and London could finish a year sooner https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/plan-to-fast-track-highway-projects-will-speed-up-carnage-alley-widening/wcm/9e5ecf96-4988-475d-8ee4-5afa4bfc27d7/

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

It's about a month old, but drone footage of the 401 Miltion-Mississauga widening Found on Facebook- not sure if you have to have an account to view? Wasn't able to find it anywhere else.

We would love some induced demand transportation projects in London. That would take the strain away from the overloaded grid. No commuter freeways, no rapid transit. Roads and buses were clogged pre-Covid. We are going to get a half-assed BRT but it won't be enough to cope with the growth this...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

So let's take an extreme example then. Iet's say the 401 was left as a 4 lane highway like when it was first built. Would it still be able to carry the volume it does now? No. That traffic would have to go somewhere- it doesn't magically disappear. Yes some could be taken away by better transit...

It's a growing city. Of course any new roads & widenings will get congested. Ideally road and transit projects should keep up with growth.

Why is the 403/QEW interchange not a full Interchange?

Even with a transponder you still pay fee, even if you just use a short stretch. But hey, if you want to use this route when the ramps are complete, by all means do. Maybe less traffic on the 427 as a result.

Why is the 403/QEW interchange not a full Interchange?

Ha! To get from the 401 to QEW/Gardiner on this route? Not a chance. Not worth the 407 camera charge fees for such a short distance. I'd rather take the 427.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I believe all but 2 overpasses between Tilbury and London can support 6-lanes without any modifications or replacement work. Funny enough these two already have the concrete median, but it would make little sense to keep these 4-lanes since the 6-lane stretch east of the 402 is just a few kms...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Yep the 401 Tilbury-London stretch isn't in dire need of 6 lanes, but you may as well do it if putting in the concrete median. That's exactly what was done in the Windsor-Tilbury stretch. If feels a little odd having the concrete median and third lane end here. Usually that occurs at some kind...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

That would be roughly 720km of 6-lane highway and a concrete median, assuming the eastern stretch gets built this way (the grass median is wider here compared to the Tilbury-London stretch). I wonder what the record is for a continuous concrete median length.

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

There is no Metrolinx for London. London isn't even a region like K-W. It's one city. No other big cities directly neighbour it or are nearby. The nearest major city is an hour's drive away. At this time there isn't a need for a regional transit authority / PRESTO/PRESTO-like system because...
