    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Hmm interesting. It doesn't look like the 401 overpasses and flyover were built long enough to widen Younge Street below. If you took out the median maybe you could squeeze a dual left turn in as a short term fix. ...Could another flyover fit in this area without much rework? It would solve...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

There are only two westbound collector lanes on the 401 over Yonge Street. I wonder if the project will include the addition of an extra lane or two to eliminate this bottleneck...

    Toronto Bloor-Yonge Station Capacity Enhancement | ?m | ?s | TTC | AECOM

Hi! So many of you don't think this capacity improvement is needed if the Ontario Line is built? Wouldn't this help future-proof the station? I'm sure in the long term it is going to be needed. So once the Ontario Line completes, demand on this station will be down which means that's probably...

Wait what? Redflagdeals has a thread about road construction? Probably the last place I'd ever think would have one. Guess the routes need to be efficient to take advantage of the dealz fully. Time is money.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Thanks for sharing your pics as always Drum! I appreciate the efforts* you're going through to take and post them. Winter shutdown is coming soon- I wonder if they'll try to get a shoulder open before the flurries hit. 3 tight lanes won't allow for a lot of snow storage. *Edit: efforts, not...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

It would be less than 1km long. Maybe it could have been a HOV passing lane? It's kind of annoying being stuck behind someone doing like 80 in it while traffic across the buffer is moving at 120+

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Some other areas of the 401 have grass in the median between collector and express. Adds a bit of greenery. Too bad they didn't do that here. Example https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.8019101,-79.1389325,3a,41.7y,218.01h,84.39t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sZMbFzBCNyqvdYOnLBqU4Iw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Great pics thanks for sharing! Those extra barriers and asphalt islands are infill from a cancelled HOV-only interchange at McLaughlin Road. Plans fell through somehow I guess so that's why you see the road jog so much around this area of the highway despite it being straight. I would have...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Thanks for the pics! Is it just me or does the highway seem really bendy here? Lots of little curves to and from the median despite the road being strait. At least the next phase of widening is all one contract. Miltion-Mississauga is being done all at once. Once this is done, I'd expect...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

No. The 401 will actually squeeze under the 407 interchange because the bridges were not built long enough for a collector-express configuration. Any redesign of the interchange allowing connections to a new highway to the north might do something to mitigate this, including new overpasses for...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Between Highway 8 and 407, 8 lanes + 2 HOV lanes would suffice. I am surprised collectors are being built west of the 407 interchange- that seems like overkill to me. An extra auxiliary lane may be warranted between Highways 8 and 24, and between the two Highway 6 exits. ----- Out of scope...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

the 35/115 would need access to places like this gas station cleaned up first before becoming 400-series https://www.google.com/maps/@43.9383919,-78.6014193,3a,75y,181.14h,84.23t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spGFIwhzONvJKW4GTSZwoGQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Same with Highway 11 past the 400 split. Too many...

Perhaps tolls could come off the 412 and 418 once they are paid for +50 years maintaince costs. That way they would be revenue neutral and the money maker would be 407E for the province.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Seems strange. How would a boulevard work if it's a toll highway? Sensor gantries after every intersection? Or is this highway not to be tolled? Either way, province has the power to override both lower and upper tier municipalities. Douggie could also do this as a big F-you to Patrick Brown lol

Roads: Highway 7 North Kitchener-Guelph New Freeway Build

With the Hanlon Parkway in Guelph getting more interchanges, you could have an entire freeway bypass of the 401 between Highway 8 and 6 once this is done. Say what you want about building more highways, it's good to have redundancy in the network. Ideally I'd like to see this highway extended...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Thanks for the list. Do you have a link where you found this by chance? I haven't been able to find one. The 401 median is being rebuilt in east London and east of the city. Driving this on Canada Day weekend, I saw new central supports casted as part of this work for a new span of the...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Getting the 404 to link up with Highway 11 north of Lake Simcoe could really help alleviate traffic on the non-freeway sections of 11 between Hwy 400 and the most northern part of Lake Simcoe. A pipe dream at this point- that is far off.

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Start the TBM and don't stop at Richmond Hill. Keep going to Newmarket, or heck if you can get some higher speeds on the trains, keep tunneling to Barrie for all I care. Just keep the TBM going like the Energizer bunny.
