    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

What a mess. A lack of foresight for cycling is going to make Dundas a clusterf*ck. The bike lanes on King and Queen are being taken out for BRT so cyclists have to use Dundas now. Dundas doesn't have any bike lanes so they came up with this...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

It's not necessarily dead, but the federal EA may make things so costly and time-consuming that the province may have to cancel the project. Such examples include moving at-risk species, elevating some parts of the highway, changing/rerouting drainage and/or creeks, etc. If it is ever built, at...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Makes sense to me. Why pay $ when the free routes aren't congested? There are no widening projects scheduled on the ETR this year for the first time in a while. The entire median from the 401 to the 404 has been filled in with lanes. I can't really see short or mid-term needs for expansion in...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I agree that auto users don't pay their fair share for transportation infrastructure versus transit users. The gas tax should have kept up with inflation to help bridge this gap. People also complain about the cost of their license plate sticker renewal but I could see that going up a bit too. I...

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

The traffic using 407E, 412 & 418 didn't magically appear out of nowhere. I'd expect the bulk of it came from 401 traffic it parallels, reducing it's usage a bit and thus pushing back widening projects for a few years. I'd like to know what the 401 traffic was between the 412 and 35/115 before...

I still don't think there should be tolls on the 412 or 418 until you are 100% going to the 407. Going northbound, tolling shouldn't begin until after the Hwy 7/Winchester Road exit on the 412 and the Taunton Road exit on the 418.

Actually I'd love to see a continuous HOV lane on the 401's entire length through Greater Toronto... maybe all the way from Highway 8 in Kitchener to the 35/115 interchange. This would be done by converting the leftmost lane to HOV- not a new build. That is politically challenging. To make this...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The HOV lane setup in Ontario is only good for long-distance traffic. In other areas there are dedicated HOV-only exits and entrances to local roads and larger highways. In Ontario you have to exit the lane and merge all the way right to exit. For someone like me, the HOVs on the 403/QEW...

This new vid shows work ongoing/completed on the 401/407ETR/400 It's pretty crazy that the 407ETR is 10 freaking lanes now between the 401 and 410, but at least the 401 itself won't be puny in comparison for much longer. HOVs on the 400 need to run up to Barrie territory.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

The later part of this video shows the widening work from Mississauga to Milton as it was in Feb 2021.

    Roads: Fantasy Proposals

Ya London's city limits are messed up. It's a city of like 400k yet we have to worry about very rural issues due to the amount of farmland in the south. The city has to put time and effort into communities like ScottsVille, Westminister and Glanworth which are all way outside of any developed...

    Roads: Fantasy Proposals

Neat ideas! Agreed on cutting the EC Row Expressway (or what you call 422) short and routing it back to the 401. There isn't a need for 2 parallel freeways since the 401 alone can handle the traffic well. I can't see the need for Highway 3 to become a freeway. At the very most it could be...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I don't think you'd really see much relief on the DVP- it's so congested that it wouldn't make much of a dent. However the 401 between the DVP and Highway 2A (Scarborough Expressway) interchange would flow better. The Scarborough Expressway would handle much of the traffic destined for downtown...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Yes the Highway 6 widening in Hamilton is uprising. Guess they don't really care about Guelph's stretch of the 6 until the new Highway 7 freeway is well underway. Hamilton's airport is going to be busier post-covid with budget airlines like Swoop potentially becoming more popular. It's also...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

...Why not both? Would GTA West even be used by a lot of Brampton folks? You're essentially going to drive north to get to the main employment centres in the south. That doesn't really make sense. I could see it as a way to get to the 400 or 401 for vacation / shopping trips but not really much...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Maybe so but the 401 would get less congested. Anything to relieve pressure on the 401 is a win economically. It's the backbone of the province. This new highway would take some traffic off the 401 but nothing like reducing or eliminating tolls on the 407.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

The cities- upper or lower tier, are powerless to stop the province. All these motions do is generate talk but we have a PC majority and until the MPPs and the party policies are swayed, this will continue. The next provincial election will be the main vote on this project. All these...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Uhh 'mega highway'? This thing will only be 4-6 lanes at the most and likely tolled to deter drivers so I don't buy it. That's quite a spin. We have the internet - all the information we want at our fingertips. Doing a little research first would help but that won't generate as many likes...
