    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

for 409 to 404, the Highway 400 interchange is a major source of congestion. The 401 itself doesn't really need more lanes, rather the connecting ramps between the two highways need to be widened and we need more of them. Some of the connections are single lanes and could be doubled, and others...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Depending on where they're building it, adding more lanes will help the highway flow better. Basically we need to tackle the choke points / bottlenecks rather than the already wide sections. Example- the only real way to build collector lanes between the 427 and 409 interchanges would be to...

    London Commuter Rail Discussions

I envision taking the GO train often to Kitchener. Too bad there's only one train and just weekdays. Perhaps it will expand a bit. I want to use it to go to events like Oktoberfest for instance. That way I don't have to worry about drinking and driving. Once you're back in London you could...

lol it was just a rough concept. In reality it would absolutely avoid places like this. It's this far north to stay farther away from Greater Toronto to discourage sprawl. It forms a secondary / alternative route to the 401/400 for people from west of Toronto to avoid Greater Toronto to get...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I'm a soft proponent of GTA West AKA 413. Although I would much prefer having a route further north to connect new Highway 7 freeway between K-W and Guelph to the 404. Bradford Bypass would be replaced too. Something like this

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I'm not sure but it's a good opportunity to replace the centre concrete median I guess since the rest of the highway is being reconstructed. I recall it being quite small / below standard in some areas. Here in the London area they're also replacing the median which is surprising. The tall wall...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Those towering signs are a blight on the landscape. I hate them with a passion. It also makes every interchange pretty much the same. No real character when you get off the freeway, They usually all look like this: I like our service centres. Quick pee stop in clean rest rooms, or you can...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Wouldn't travelers heading to Mississauga use the 410 instead, and then access these employment areas via 401 WB rather than take the entire thing to the 401/407 and then go 401 EB? You'd also access the 403 via the 410 connection. If this is tolled it would also be cheaper to get off at 410...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Really? How so? You're essentially backtracking since GTA West goes... well west lol Why would I get on the highway at any of the major highway connections just go go back on 401 or 407 EB? Am I missing something here? If I'm heading into Greater Toronto, I'd use this highway from the 400 to...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

That SB to EB ramp to 401/407 looks insane. Likely Canada's longest and highest flyover if built. https://www.gta-west.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Draft-Straw-Model-Designs-Section-1.pdf Would there really be that much demand for such an expensive structure for that link? I can't see it...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Interesting. Not a bad idea. However you'd need the public to be honest on their km statements upon plate renewal- or have someone from Service Ontario go out and check it (and assume the reading hasn't been hacked/adjusted by the driver). You could also get a 'charge' at a charging station...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

lol the 401 won't ever be tolled. Unless there's a proper bypass of the 401 (such as a highway north of London-K/W-Toronto-Ottawa) it ain't going to happen. Public opposition would be stiff, and local/parallel rural roads would get a lot more congested.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I can't see Ontario building any more Right in, Right out (RIRO) expressways in this day and age. Upgrades will come by three methods these days - 4 laning, building a divided highway (with intersections) or going with a full-blown freeway design. I'd for sure love to see some 2+1s in the north...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Not really. Too many businesses and home/farm driveways on #9. This setup is best for places in the middle of the wilderness where a 4-lane divided highway isn't warranted.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

That may not be true. Extending the 417 may include bypasses of existing sections of the 17, such as around towns. This could add or subtract the length of the highway for the entire 17-417 stretch. I'm not sure if I can see the 417 go further than Petawawa long-term, so maybe when it gets to...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

It would at least be nice if the route was signed #1 throughout the country. Why does #1 turn into #17 at the Manitoba/Ontario border? The lack of consistency is simply dumb. 17/417 should be resigned as #1. Same with the routes the main trunk of the Trans-Canada follows in Quebec. #2 in new...
