    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

I mean ya... but at least ----- The reasons why the south and east legs were approved is that they run on their own new lane- no existing car lanes will be eaten up, and that they provide transit connections to London's industrial lands in the east and south. The downtown loop was a...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The west leg had BRT running in mixed traffic right in the middle of the route, not at the end. The stretch on Wharncliffe you see here- the purple dashes- was the mixed traffic portion. . The route nixed- https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/london-ontario-bus-rapid-transit-1.5072012...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

a 8 hour workday with a 8-9 hour commute on top of that? And add time to get to the train station in London and your office in Toronto and you're probably closer to 9.5 or 10 hours. 18 hour day means you have just 6 hours at home to do stuff and sleep. The previous Liberal government wanted a...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

Next to no one uses the GO service. It's almost like the PCs put it in as a way to try and get votes from the London area last election (they failed, all of London went NDP again), and now they have a excuse to kill it showing that commuter trains aren't a viable option. It's bleeding money that...

Just seems if the Garden City Skyway is going to be 8 lanes whenever the new bridge is finished, you may as well maximize this capacity with 8 lanes to and from the bridge. Aside from busy holiday weekends, the QEW flows fine through St Catharines but 8 lanes would sure be nice here and toward...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The GO service to London is a joke and is hardly ever used. Who wants to spend 4-4.5 hours EACH way to Toronto and back? I'd much rather drive or take Via. Regardless, the current BRT plan does not have a connection with the train station downtown which is a miss IMO. The Downtown Loop route...

This one makes sense- but the QEW needs some love if this isn't built. Hamilton to St. Catharines can really use an extra lane right now. That merge just past the Red Hill Niagara-bound is atrocious. You have 4 lanes from the QEW and 2 from the Red Hill merging into 3. Getting a 4th lane built...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

Looks like the city put the final nail in the coffin yesterday for the west leg of the BRT route. They are choosing to use the money to instead build a new transit HQ, and build infrastructure for electric buses...

At least this project is doing what it can to reduce weaving. Collector-express config reduces multi-lane changes, and the buffered HOV lane controls the entrance/exit points. When complete there won't really be much 'demand to induce'. It's already there. Milton is growing like a weed and the...

Not taking sides here but want to state that this widening is taking place in the 401's existing right of way. No additional farm land is being eaten up by this project or similar ones taking place in Cambridge, Tilbury and elsewhere. The same cannot be said for new builds like the 413 for example.

Ya the only way to build proper transit on Richmond is to build a tunnel. If you're doing all that work it better not be BRT... you may as well put in a full subway line from Victoria Park all the way north to the Thames River, then running at-grade over the river toward Masonville mall. That...

I... grudgingly agree with you. It's our choice to do nothing, and when there's no alternatives you're going to use car because that is all you have. Even if there are no multi lane roads or freeways, you have to drive by car if there isn't a viable alternative and it's our fault. I'm always in...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Even if that poll was true, it does not change the fact that the governing majority party that was re-elected supports the 413. Also- it's just for GTA residents. Remember that the election was provincial, not regional. I'm not a fan of Douggie or the PCs either, but you can't put the people...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

We had an election about this. The one party that supported and campaigned hard for this project won a majority. The ridings this highway will run through or near turned blue - including all of Brampton, which indicates high support for the project in my eyes and the PCs as well. You can expect...

    London, ON

Life long Londoner here. I just don't know any better and it's always a breath of fresh air visiting other cities that actually do stuff. I wouldn't say London is car-centric by choice, it's our only option due to insufficient transit, cycling and walk-ability. We don't even have 'proper' car...

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

Just thinking out loud- now that the tolls are off the 412 and 418, should we think about taking them off the 407 as well east of the 412? That way you essentially get 3 feeders into the tolled section as the 407 doesn't really become worth it until you get west of the 412. While the tolled...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

lol the province is broke. The 413 will be an expensive project we will all be paying for over a long time. Doing this would add like 50-100x to the construction costs. Even if price was no object, this would add to EA an construction time... not to mention they would have to find a lot more...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Geesh the Highway 7 freeway from K-W to Guelph just seems to get delayed further and further. Douggie now has more political pressure to build the 413 now so I would assume this highway will once again be on the backburner. Doesn't help when Kitchener Centre, Waterloo and Guelph ridings didn't...
