Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

There is a express exit on 401 WB that goes to Hurontario only. It does not go to Mavis. You could 'redneck' in a transfer here but it would be quite messy https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6311983,-79.6818064,230m/data=!3m1!1e3 The grade/slope of the Hurontario exit is also higher up from...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Hmm yes that seems like a short amount of runway. On WB 401 taking the transfer built between Hurontario and Mavis means you gotta get over like 4 lanes in a small stretch. That seems difficult to do in heavy traffic. You could take the transfer way back at Pearson instead to give yourself a...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Simply because it's the leftmost lane. People assume it is going to be the fastest / passing lane because of this. I agree with the above statements however. Having a 2+1 setup in the express where trucks can use both general lanes is going to aggravate a lot of people- not just the speed...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

With the exception of Highway 4 and Glanworth overpasses, the rest of the existing overpasses between Tilbury and London are long enough to support a 6 lane config. The median was designed to be filled in one day, so as long as they widen inward they can squeeze 6 lanes under all of them...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Now that the 110 trials are permanent, and we have other 110 areas, I wonder if Ontario may ever try out 120 on a few stretches. Maybe a 2026 election ploy by Douggie? Perhaps this newly widened 401 stretch will be a good candiate, or one of the original 110 trials. The 402 could easily be 120...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Ya 2+ seems a little low and I thought Ontario was just starting at that number to introduce people to the HOV lanes when they first opened. 3+ is where they really start to make a difference moving more people on congested roads. Also HOVs may not be the fastest when traffic is free-flowing...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I disagree but I guess we will see. Going from 6 lanes to 8+2 HOV is going to make the 401 flow a lot better here. I still don't think collectors are needed west of the 407 but I'm no expert. I am hopeful Milton won't keep growing the way Mississauga did and try to put an emphasis on rail and...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I still find it hard to believe there is going to be a collector-express system west of the 407. Both the 407 and Winston Churchill overpasses were never designed with this intent, and I thought the start of the complex freeway would always begin between Winston Churchill and Mississauga Road...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Hi there! Everyone has their own thoughts regarding how things should be done and this guy (not just bikes) certainly puts a spin on his videos. Nevertheless, I actually like looking into 'both' sides of the arguments. I don't put my head in the sand like many people that just stay on one side...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Cheesus crust watching that video makes me cringe using this area as a pedestrian. Sure there may not be a lot of people walking here but at least have some basic infrastructure. The fact this wasn't incorporated / retrofitted in the current project seems insane to me. It's 2022, not 1962.

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

Ya this is getting more into fantasy roads thread but if the 413 was built maybe we can get another Highway 7 freeway extension to it from Guelph. Don't nitpick this straight line, obviously it would meanader a bit to bypass towns, environmentally sensitive areas, etc I'm all for expanding...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Some of these contracts are awarded years in advance- hard to plan for that. Also I think everyone that wanted to work construction during the pandemic did... sure it would be easier traffic-wise but they still had some procedures to follow to minimize risk- delaying/slowing timings a bit...

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

Ok, how about a possible westward section? This could hook up to the Highway 7 freeway (whenever it is built) in Guelph. Something like this? Again, good for redundancy and will help relieve some congestion on the 401 between K-W and Mississauga. The N/S section of the 407 could be...

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

So think we'll finish it one day? If the 407E was extended further- back to the 401, that would give you a more direct connection, and relieve some congestion on the 401 section it bypasses. Always good to have some redundancy in the network, even if it is tolled.

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

I agree 100%, but one important correction- London is not a regional Ontario city. If the London metro became a regional municipality then you would have some politicians that would care more about the greater good of the area as a whole. With just a single tier, councilors care more about...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Yep going from London to Niagara I always use the Linc/Red Hill opposed to the 403/QEW. I am one of the people the city absolutely hates because I am using city-funded roads without doing anything in the city. They have to pay for the asphalt with no return from me to the local economy. I also...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

Yep. London's a do-nothing city for the most part. We said no to provincially funded highways and now we're doing the same to the province/feds with half of the BRT route. We say no a lot, which means our tax dollars spent for the upper tiers go elsewhere in the province/country. Ideally we...
