Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

There's some talk about the Gardiner on SkyScraperCity which those checking this tread may be interested in checking out- https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/cdn-canada-road-infrastructure.489565/page-281 ----- As time has passed, I have changed my opinion on the project and now support a...

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

The Gardiner made it to the F cars reddit today. Interesting comments.

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

It still seems like quite the commitment to simply cater to one business. If you routed more directly you could put a couple stops before you leave St Thomas and one in Lynhurst too. Regardless of the route it would take, it is needed for sure as St. Thomas continues to grow at double digit...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The possible London-St. Thomas route would connect to the southernmost part of the BRT. It has no intention of going to the Amazon facility. That is way out of the way and only serves one business at certain times of the day when there are shift changes. If there is a need for transit, perhaps...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Agree - but I am saying we should do this in rural areas were traffic is light and roads are generally straight. Your referencing busy areas smack dab in the middle of Canada's largest metro area and at areas that curve a bit. The 100 limit should still apply here, obviously. A 130 example...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Ontario spent a ton of money on those colour changeable message signs. Surely they can just keep pumping them out by bulk to make more for variable speed limits? If there's heavy traffic, these signs can tell you to reduce your speed to 80 as you approach the congestion, for example. That would...

Ya even with the permanent raise to 110 in select sections, we are still slow compared to much of the world. Now that the 110 trials are complete, can we start 120 trials next? 😎 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_by_country

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Haha, basically it would just be a big FU to the USA if they were surrounded on both sides by true metric speed signs? That's the only thing I can think of, other than just making Canada deviate further away from the US setup and be more like the rest of the world. Other than that I see no...

    Northern Ontario Highways - Proposals

It seems Google does as well. :P

It would basically bring us to the same speed limit standardization as the rest of the 'metric world'. Just about everywhere else uses a speed sign that is a circle with a red outline around the speed limit. The US and Canada are exceptions using a white rectangle for speed signs. Basically this

    Northern Ontario Highways - Proposals

It wouldn't take too much effort to make Hwy 11 up to 400 series standard between Huntsville and North Bay. You could slap a 411 shield on that stretch if you wanted to, and then continue to extend that route south working towards Orillia and eventually Barrie. Also what's going to happen when...

We're getting better with them. More roundabouts are being built year after year. And there are other designs you can do to help with left turns including loop ramps, jug-handles, Michigan Lefts, Continuous Flow intersections, etc. All these are more expensive than a standard intersection...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I am surprised by this too, and since the collectors west of the 407 provide access to just 2 exits, I would assume the vast majority of traffic would clump in the express- making them way overused in comparison to the collectors. It's still early, but I guess we will see. What this system does...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

WB at #25, the rightmost lane becomes a dedicated exit lane. Second rightmost ends. HOV turned into a general lane. So yes its a very similar if not the same config as the 410 NB where you really only have 2 general lanes at this merge point when there 3 before. ----- Timelapse vid of the...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I can see that the new HOVs on the 401 express are being utilized properly. 🤣 😅😂

This is pretty insane, thanks for sharing. Yes politics for sure but we as a province did re-elect Douggie to 'get it done', whatever they changed 'it' to. :p Based on these numbers if it costs the same to build a brand new freeway from Kitchener to Guelph as it does to add a median to the 401...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Welp once this project west to Milton and the widening in Cambridge is polished off, the next section between hwy 8 and 410 to be tackled is between the two Highway 6 interchanges near Guelph. The 401 will be 12-laned here (doubled!) with 10 lanes designed to be pushed through the two junctions...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

So this is to be built as a 4 lane highway by 2031, and widened to 6+2HOV by 2041? I'm sure that's optimistic but if you're going to have construction on a highway before it's even a decade old, the sane thing to do is to build it right initially. I know cost, time, politics come into play sadly...
