Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

Nuclear is clean, but it sure ain't green. Regardless I support expanding nuclear growth 10000000%. Newer designes are far more safer and efficient than old ones, and as more electric cars get on the road we need better ways to power them.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

'Metrolinx is killing the 4.5 hour long, 1 time per day, weekday only GO train from London to Toronto.' What a waste. Do it properly next time or better yet give us that high speed rail / bullet train / maglev dammit!

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Agreed. In this case the 'just one more lane bro' approach will work. 6 lane the 403 up to Highway 6 and call it a day. That should be sufficient to service the expanding Hamilton airport and is far cheaper and less disruptive vs building the Mid-Pen.

This was being planned by the county, but I would assume it would be cancelled with the Highway 3 twinning study. https://www.elgincounty.ca/wonderland-highway3/ ----- There are currently no plans for any bus service between London and St Thomas but who knows the demand generated by the...

Hi there! According to the MTO, the Highway 6 bypass project is still labelled as a 'upcoming expansion'. That's another way of saying it is on the back burner. https://www.ontario.ca/page/ontarios-highway-programs

Just a note that the new Costco opened a few weeks ago and the old store closed. BRT south of the 401 was never proposed in any form during the planning. BRT lanes run as far south as White Oaks mall, with a future potential of a mixed traffic extension to a yet to be built commuter lot near the...

Navigation apps. Not sure why but they (can't say all of them however) want you in the collectors here even if you are driving all the way through Toronto past Pickering or vice versa. Blindly following what the computer says is one source of the overuse of the collectors vs the express.

lol the current infrastructure is inadequate to support downtown Toronto presently, let alone in the future. This applies to both roads and transit. Strip the roads and you get more use on transit sure, but things are already overcrowded. The Ontario Line may induce some demand from drivers...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Are you thinking of a cloverleaf? There are 4 loops, and a common accel/decel lane where they enter and exit on most designs. You get weaving issues if the interchange is gets busy, but if volumes are low they work great due to no need for stoplights/signs. Speaking of cloverleafs, the one at...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

It's very aggravating, especially going eastbound. 2 lane drops at Salem too close by creates one heck of a bottleneck. To remedy things a bit for now, a 4th lane should be extended to the 412. I was surprised this didn't happen when the interchange was built, but perhaps they didn't want a...

It's also political. Essex / Windsor Tecumseh can lean NDP sometimes but if the PCs commit to widening Highway 3 that's a big win for votes. Not saying it's the sole reason why the ridings turned tory blue last election but I am sure it had some implications. Not much has been done in the...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

The main issue I have with the Wellington "gateway" is that the CN underpass near downtown will not be widened. Buses will run in mixed traffic here and this underpass is congested enough as it is. Doesn't make for very reliable 'rapid' transit if it takes them 3 light cycles to get through...

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2023/03/28/401-north-america-busiest-highway/ Data shows in 2019 the 401 had 450k vehicles using a stretch near the Toronto airport. Stats from other busy highways on the continent pale in comparison to the 401's traffic numbers.

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

I can imagine some issues with drainage if the freeway is sunken like this. You'd need pumps to raise the water and dump it into the lake. If you're going sunken freeway, you may as well just do a cut-and-cover project similar to subway projects that don't use a tunnel boring machine. Also going...
