    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

This one is so weird as the overpass is new-ish yet they didn't bother to reconfigure the ramps as part of that project. Getting the QEW 6-laned to the 420 makes total sense and the QEW won't need to go down to a single through lane (Toronto bound anyway). With a 420 extension no longer...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Ya looks like the city came to their senses... just barely and will approve some, but not all of the funding the LTC wants. Highway-wise, London's only half-assed freeway- Highbury Avenue South- is getting rebuilt/rehabbed over the next few years. It's 100km/h and meets the 401 at traffic...

https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/1004192/ontario-banning-road-tolls-freezing-drivers-licence-fees-to-keep-costs-down 'no new tolls' But existing ones stay. New builds like 413 and Bradford Bypass will be toll free. I still believe the 407 between the 418 and 35/115 should also be toll free...

For I-278 in Brooklyn, it's the only way for trucks to get through that part of town, so the demand is there regardless of how many lanes you have. If the Gardiner was removed, the truck demand for it would still be there but funneled on city streets instead. So now you have lots of big heavy...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

In Brooklyn NYNY there is a freeway that is part of a 3-level cantilever (I-278) structure. It's in a pretty sorry state similar to the Gardiner. To help extend the life of the structure they permanently reduced it from 3 lanes to 2... less weight and fatigue on it that way and also gives you a...

Oh don't worry London's catching up to you. The multi-year budget has no new funding for LTC. The funding increase just is enough to maintain the status quo due to inflation and higher operational costs. London's half-assed BRT is separate from the LTC funding however, and is encountering huge...

That's good, It's certainly a odd config, especially with Hoggs Hollow and that freeway-like flyover from 401 EB to Yonge NB. A complete rework would give the 401 a chance to get 3 full collector lanes, and those odd turns and pedestrian-hostile areas around the interchange can be addressed too.

Ya right now the best bang for your buck is to widen the bottle-necked stretches. 427 to 409 is top priority for sure, but there are also other weird lane drops in places like the WB collectors at Yonge where you only have 2 lanes to Hogg's Hollow bridge. I'm not saying a entirely new bridge is...

Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

...Should a separate thread be made for Pickering? Perhaps one for Darlington while we're at it? Or just rename this thread to 'Nuclear Power infrastructure' or something instead? The last few posts have nothing to do with the proposed new nuclear build at the Bruce site.

    Car free Niagara Falls

Thanks! I had some interactions with the Parks Commission around 2010 and a LRT line along the Niagara Parkway was a serious proposal back then until the 'great recession' killed any potential plans / funding for it. I'd love to see it revived. If it ever gets built, tourist dollars could...

    Car free Niagara Falls

The Niagara Parkway was recently reduced from 4 lanes to 3 to widen the sidewalk between the two waterfalls. It's crazy how congested it still is even with that extra space at peak tourist season. I'd support them taking another lane out so it could be 2 lanes each way. Before...

Roads: Ambassador & Gordie Howe Bridges

Assuming no border wait times, yes it is better to take the Blue Water Bridge if you want to use I-94 / the Detroit airport. For I-96, Blue Water is also better if you're using it beyond the Detroit metro for sure, perhaps via I-69. A timelapse came out from the bridge authority to showcase...

Roads: Ambassador & Gordie Howe Bridges

It all depends on border wait times. If there's a delay at Gordie Howe and nothing at Ambassador, people will use it instead. There are a ton of customs plazas going in for Gordie however, so if they're all operating that wait shouldn't be too long. Its still a bit more direct to get to a few...

    London Rapid Transit (In-Design)

Next year reconstruction begins at 'Oxbury' (major intersection of Oxford Street and Highbury Avenue, two of the few complete N/S / E/W roads in the city) and that is going to be an absolute nightmare as there are few decent detour choices as it gets rebuilt. Then again I WFH so can't complain...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

All one needs to do is go visit Boston to discover what the land the Gardiner occupies could possibly be. Check out the last episode of the big dig podcast with slides... or watch the full thing if interested. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMQKK3_a14M3A-SQdVVWhOfOw8xRUuueJ

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

You could in theory give the 411 number to the small stretch of Highway 11 between the Highway 400 split and the first RIRO (right in, right out) exit, but it would be too short and confusing to people. Same goes for the 35/115. You could call this the 415 or maybe 435 for like a km at most...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

If this Highway 3 freeway ultimately connects to the 401... you have a chance to perhaps renumber it... as the 403! The current 403 could be renumbered to something else... with the Gardiner now going into provincial hands you could maybe have 403/QEW-403/QEW/Gardiner become a new highway...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I fundamentally disagree. Living in London I see the Gardiner/DVP just like any other 400-series highway. It's a part of the provincial freeway network in my mind. Same goes with the Linc/RHVP in Hamilton. The province should be maintaining this, or at minimum the entire GTA should be chipping...
