Yeah, this is awful. I think the proposal up the street on Parliament & Queen (Shoppers Drug Mart) is supposed to include a grocery store as well. A return of Sobeys to Corktown would be interesting. I will also add that Rocco's No Frills at Front & Princess is a very good store.

I recall that there's a recurring problem related to contamination seeping through the concrete walls at one of the Crombie-era affordable housing buildings across the street. I think it's the one with the St Lawrence library branch, and if I recall correctly, the city has taken on the...

Yeah, one of the residents told me the building was becoming a WeWork-style co-working office space. It's good that the building will be maintained, but quite a few talented people with rare skills are being pushed out.

I’m moving there as well, about 2.5km from my current home in Corktown :)

Best grocery stores in downtown Toronto?

    This is sooo Cabbagetown, hahaha.

Suzanne has probably been busy developing the menu and training staff at the huge Avling Brewery in Leslieville, which is finally opening.

Yes, the odour has been very strong lately.

Conversion. It's being turned into WeWork-style coworking office space. Occupants have been given notice of eviction. I visited two live/work studios on the 2nd floor that were having a content sale (the only two participating). One craftsman had been there for 20 years, the other for 10. I...

Good move by True True, since Pi Co, a similar business with more buzz, has moved in a short distance away on Church.

He's a classist idiot, too. He was a vocal opponent of the TCH buildings in Cityplace years ago and distributed flyers claiming they would ruin the neighbourhood and reduce condo values.

Amaya at 263 King St E seems to be closed. Not sure if the space is going up for lease, or maybe they're transforming it into another "Junoon" like their location in FCP. Either way, they're regularly cited by Dinesafe health inspectors, so I'm staying far away.

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

Organic Garage expansion plans include the east waterfront, with an expectation of opening by the end of this year. My guesses are Monde or maybe one of those Tridel buildings... Or maybe in "The Yard" portion of the Daniels Waterfront development at Jarvis...

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

Yeah, I paid close attention to the produce section and found no problems on my first visit. Good expiry dates on bins of baby greens, no wilty scallions or dark leafy greens, garlic bulbs were firm and healthy; things I typically look for. They seem to be high on the pecking order at the Food...

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

I visited Organic Garage in Liberty Village for the first time and was blown away. They had a lot of items that I can normally only find at the St Lawrence / Kensington markets and most prices were on par with or better than my local No Frills. Bulk kombucha and cold brew coffee on tap. It's...
