Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Up until about a year ago (probably more) the underpass at Guelph Central was always unlocked. Being downtown and right across from a rooming house the area became a very popular spot for homeless and drug addicts. One morning I used the tunnel and called for the elevator- only for a homeless...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Just as Train 84 left Guelph this morning, construction crews started work on weather proofing the section for the new 2nd track on the Wyndham Street underpass.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

With many staff working remotely, now is a great time to get the detailed design work done and shovel ready for the post CVOID rebound.

Cycling through Streetview, looks like all maintenance stopped once the tunnel closed. Nature just took over. I walked by last year and the entrance was filled with garbage.

Go to page 9 on this document: http://conf.tac-atc.ca/english/annualconference/tac2014/s-14/smeltzer.pdf Built in 1987 and closed when the new Guelph Bus terminal was built. When the second platform is built, I hope a new, wider tunnel is built in the same location.

Here are the shots of the tunnel entrance and tracks. what is the pipe that goes above ground?

I'm out of town this week and just heard about this now. The entrance on the south side is a popular homeless sleeping area. The door looks like it hasn't been used in years. If you look on a map, the tunnel is located just east of the parking lot used by the chamber of commerce.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Hopefully this phase will be shovel ready in time for post pandemic construction funding.

People do stupid things around trains (and driving in general). Like Queens Quay, nobody regularly drives on tracks and don't understand how low their car sits to the ground and will bottom out on an iron rail when the wheels are over the ties. So continuing to drive down the tracks could feel...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Not condone driving up the tracks and getting a car stuck Queens Quay style. I've driven by this crossing many times and the angle at which the railway intersects gives the impression that the tracks are another road with a soft right turn from the road (even more so at night with no overhead...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Update: over the Easter weekend, they replaced the switch to the east (by the river). Looks like they're doing the work over the weekend when there's only VIA traffic on the line.

    Newfoundland Rail Connection

There's isn't a business case; it's a vote buying project by the federal and provincial Liberals. Even with weather delays from Cape Breton. A truck driving through Labrador is going to take longer to get to Newfoundland. However, as a railfan, I love the idea of taking a Canadian train like...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Not much has changed since the photos from twitter were posted. They haven't removed/installed a new switch at either ends yet.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Finally got around to checking out the work Metrolinx has done along the "street running" section in Guelph on this sunny work free week day. Starting from railway @Yorkshire and heading east here are some photographs of the much needed upgrades. I did not walk along the railway if anyone is...

    VIA Rail

With the new fleet being bi directional, I wonder if VIA will make a firm decision which direction the locomotives face- east or west. they should face east with the cab cars facing west to align with GO Transit’s fleet policy.

It’s great to see this taking shape. But it’s the construction of the second platform that I want to see break ground. A tunnel that extends from Neeve Street under the middle of the platforms will be helpful once traffic really increases.

I wonder if VIA will want to use this station. I hope not. VIA should stop serving Malton once the new platform at Weston opens.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

(Photo credit to Disney overlords) Will a second span be built over the Speed River? And 2 tracks to extend through the slow zone west of the station?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Saw that the 2nd tracks (non platform) next to Guelph Central have been dug up and the earth striped. Looks like Metrolinx is getting ready to relay the tracks in advance of the 2nd platform.

Any idea what the four bridges are? I have seen them soil testing along the bridge over the Speed River. So I assume a new span will be built there sooner than later.
