GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

What??? I’m talking about these bridge spans Dropped pin https://goo.gl/maps/rCUSiGSCNdTZ3xX39 At Wilson and Norfolk (NOT Speed River) that are slated for replacement by Metrolinx. These 2 spans have one track but are wide enough for a 2nd track right now but are old and need to be replaced. The...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It’s going to be double track from the station to the Hanlon Expressway (the bridge can support 2 tracks). Waiting for the bridges to be replaced at Norfolk and Wilson. I emailed metrolinx and they send the 2 platform tender should be going out soon. So that should happen by next spring.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

This is very optimistic in me but if London becomes permanent, Metrolinx could run weekend service from London via Kitchener up until Georgetown. Thereby not having to negotiate with CN. The connection from Georgetown to Union would SUCK though. Again it’s not a realistic service.

Anecdotally I don’t think I’ve ever seen the VIA train arrive at its scheduled 9:44am time in Guelph.

That’s too bad. I was hoping for a weekend service announcement on the Kitchener Line after the bridge work in Guelph.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I contacted Metrolinx back in the spring and they said that the 2nd platform for Guelph should start construction in fall 2021. So hopefully that starts soon and the Double track work is complete once the bridge work is done. That way we’ll be able to realistically have the service you’re...

hahaha highlighting the parking garages on this is the Chef’s kiss. Oh the irony of their protest.

    VIA Rail

I should add that the designer in me doesn’t like the red maple leaf slapped on to the side. I’m certain some bureaucrat was “we need a maple leaf to people know we’re Canadian”. I don’t like it. DB, SNCF, NS, and PKP don’t use their national flags and colours. Branding and visual identity is...

    VIA Rail

Loving the look of the new train. And so glad they went with Siemens. Nice to see rolling stock arriving on schedule as opposed the street car fiasco with Bombardier.

The crew who took the train to London in the evening would stay at a hotel and will be the crew. for the early morning trip back. It’s standard with crews on airlines to remote areas and VIA does the same thing with its crew in White River.

The CSA on GO trains between stations with long gaps just reads a book. Based on my experience being in the same car pre covid. So unless there’s in incident they’ll have plenty of time to read between Kitchener and London. Sweet gig.

Pft I do this all the time in GTA. Gotta get to the subway tunnel to escape the 5 stars.

Guelph Central will be getting a 2nd track and platform. Some of the track is laid but won’t be completed until the Norfolk bridges are replaced.

My guess is April. Ridership will drop off a cliff except for weekends. Unless GO starts weekend trips and VIAs ridership will be non existent. That said, VIA running an express service from London with stops at Stratford, Kitchener , Guelph, Brampton and finally Weston would be popular for air...

And students. Much more comfortable than the bus and cheaper than VIA with more space. Who cares about the comfort of the seats when you have a safe train journey.

I rode my bike from Bramalea to Claireville Reservoir on Steeles back in 2018 and I happily rode on the sidewalk. Riding in mixed traffic with trucks doing 80+ was suicide.

Which has already has already proven itself worthwhile. Long, long ago just before the pandemic during the Wet'suwet'en protests in February 2020 CN & CP Rail used the Georgetown sub as seen here on the tunnel by Weston Station Stephen Host - Railpictures.ca

Small spy mentioned this years back when service started (fall 2019) and its for the reason you describe - CN switching in Kitchener to serve Elmira. So if the GO train is held up it’s no big deal.
