    The Future of Bombardier

Highly reminiscent of the recent CN/CP battle over Kansas City Southern. Was Embraer ever a contender?

    The Future of Bombardier

What makes me really wonder is how the European Union forbid Siemens’ offer to buy the Rail Division, citing ”lack of competition”, but then allowed both the Rail and Aircraft Divisions to fall into France’s hands (Alstom and Airbus respectively). Bombardier (Adtranz) also headquartering its’...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Sadly, this is the exact location where my elderly father was stopped by the police and issued a ”warning” for biking on the sidewalk, despite being afraid of the traffic at his age, a few years back.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Thank you for the reply @Northern Light, and for sharing this map! I got this in the mail today: Nice to see from your map that the lanes will also soon reach just east of Leslie. Will these be raised bike lanes, or painted/buffered?

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

There is a glaring gap between Betty Sutherland Trail/Duncan Mill Rd, and the Leaside Spur Trail. Are there any plans in the works to correct this? This would be dedicated bicycle infrastructure along Duncan Mill to Valleybrook (Dr.), then on Valleybrook to Lesmill (Rd.), then on Lesmill to...

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

Keep in mind they could toll the bridge and competitively price the ferry. My hopes aren’t too high though considering the ferry still doesn’t accept Presto.

    Vaughan Promenade Mall Revitalization | ?m | 35s | Liberty Development | WZMH

I need to say, I’ll always miss the glass canopy ”atrium” by the Clark (Southern) entrance to the former Sears. The way the sunlight entered was truly magnificent, reminiscent of the Eaton Centre Dundas Atrium… sadly, I couldn’t find any pictures. If I remember correctly, there was at least one...

TTC Fleet Procurement Strategy - 2022

Would it not be possible though to install buffers like GO trains have in-between cars to provide safer passage? Technically, the TTC could change this rule tomorrow if they allowed passage ”at your own risk” in between T1 cars. Edit: But the inter-car door alarm would be sounding constantly.

TTC Fleet Procurement Strategy - 2022

Thank you for mentioning this… I was thinking about this too! It really is a great opportunity to articulate these T1s, to provide TR-like circulation. Despite the narrow passageway, it really is possible.

TTC Fleet Procurement Strategy - 2022

Just to add, if the SSE opens in 2030, the youngest T1s will only be ~29 years old (1995-2001 procurement). It would be a shame not to do a proper refurbishment on them.

TTC Fleet Procurement Strategy - 2022

Thank you for the correction! I’m well aware of their failed, joint automization venture with Nuremberg. Somehow it worked there though… I wasn’t specifically referring to ATC, although you were, but rather about rebuilding old rolling stock. A great example is how the D-stock in London has...

TTC Fleet Procurement Strategy - 2022

I don’t think this rebuild is necessarily a bad thing, as @Northern Light points out: The shells on the T1s seem pretty well built. A lot of cities are opting to rebuild older stock to modern standards, because trains used to be built to last, example: Helsinki’s M100 metro trains are being...

    Roads: Traffic Signals

After watching recent cab-view LA Metro videos (post-Regional Connector), I couldn’t help but think about Lines 5/6. LRTs that operate at consistent (even slow) speeds have an extra signal at intersections to indicate to operators from a distance that their train has been detected, and the...

    The Future of Bombardier

It really is sad to have witnessed the downfall of a truly great Canadian company like Bombardier in my lifetime… I don’t think it would’ve been possible without the interference of foreign agents having been employed there, and sending all their knowledge back home. A great example is how...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

It’s kind of sad debating about interlining Lines 2/4 until the mainline between Bayview and South Keys is properly double-tracked. That ship sailed with the flyover over the former VIA diamond, and the underwater tunnel. It really should’ve been done properly this time (closure) around.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Would anyone be able to elaborate on the TTC’s intentions of replacing the interior next stop single-line LED-displays with LCD-displays on the older Novas? It’s being said bus 8409 has been fitted with different MTA-style LCD-displays as a demo. Edit: Does the TTC have a grievance with the...
