    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Good point! The TTC has a lot of prime real estate, that remains pretty much undeveloped. If it were to redevelop these bus terminals (eg. Sheppard-Yonge, Islington, Wellesley, etc.), it could generate much needed cash, as well as modern facilities.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Thank you for the reply. That is interesting. If it's a zoning issue, that shouldn't be too hard to resolve, as the bus terminal (AFAIK) is City-owned. The City should be able to re-zone it as a mixed-use space (i.e. bus terminal, commercial, office, and residential). I don't see too many...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Just throwing this out there to everyone... but how long until the bus terminal at Sheppard-Yonge gets redeveloped, similar to what happened at York Mills long ago. It's a valuable chunk of land. The SW corner now has several towers. The plaza with the Metro and National Sports on the SE corner...

Who's done better on transit? Vancouver or Toronto

Just to add my input. I really do prefer the new next train arrival boards Vancouver is using. They display the arrival times of the next three trains, the time of day, and the fourth row of text is dedicated to general messages and service disruptions. These nifty displays at station...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Looks like Ottawa decided to go with the same fare gates as the TTC. The only difference are the barcode readers. Installation has begun and will be completed at all Trillium line stations this summer.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Hey, this is still a prototype unit (right?)... maybe there's still hope for the rest of the fleet. But I must admit, my bias is showing. I loved the CLRVs in Boston while they had that centre headlight.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Wow, putting aside my resentment toward Bombordier's North American streetcar/tram operations, the Flexity Freedom truly is a beautiful vehicle. It really is reminiscent of a Berlin tram adapted to NA. Can't wait to see this vehicle in testing. I just wish Waterloo had gotten the centre...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Sh** dude! You're actually using your brain! If those ONR cars can be restored/upgraded to current standards, that makes so much sense.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Thank you very much for your replies guys! This is indeed great news! Even if it would take too much to operate the car in regular service, this would make a great permanent feature at Halton County. Their guys can do miracles. And thank you for the extra info on the self-propelled units - those...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but can anyone confirm that GO has indeed acquired single-deck cab car #104 from AMT for their 50th anniversary celebrations. These rumours were floating around on another forum last week but I haven't found any confirmation of this anywhere. And are they...

    TTC: One-Person Train Operation

What (aside from the union) is really stopping the TTC from implementing OPTO on the Bloor-Danforth Line (2)? This could easily be done at quieter stations by having the driver monitor the doors and the red lights on the side of the train through the mirror at the front of the platform. There...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I was wondering, are the Presto readers on TTC buses and streetcars touchscreen? If so, the default ("Tap Card") screen could be altered to something like this: By default, a standard TTC fare would be selected so you don't have to touch the screen. But if you need additional fares, there...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'm glad the TTC stopped referring to it as the "Spadina Line". That was a confusing remnant of the never built Spadina Expwy (Allen Rd), which unless you're familiar with Toronto history, you wouldn't know what it was actually referring to. "University Line" is much more appropriate, as the...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

LMFAO! This is hilarious! I'm just thankful we don't have moped cars in NA like they do in Europe. In my country you could buy one made in the Netherlands for around 16000 euros. It had a similar but smaller body of a Smart car, and a moped motor, again limiting you to 40km/h. A serious toy for...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I fully agree with your point. A moped is a moped, regardless of whether it runs on gas or electricity. I find it a joke that for the gasoline version you need a motorcycle license to operate it, however, the electric version you need nothing. For e-bikes, under law, if you remove the pedals...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Now that the 200-series of route numbers has been freed up (by eliminating route 224), I really wish the TTC would change the route numbers of the Rocket express bus routes to better reflect the local routes they are supplementing (as they did with most of the night routes), eg. make 192=200...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Attention fellow Torontonians, here are a few easy ways to avoid paying the fare at your new fare gates (hope someone from the TTC reads this). My experience comes from Stockholm, Sweden, where similar fare gates have been in place for several years now, and the Swedes have become experts at...
