I was on train 5620 today and the doors consistently shut as the chimes started playing. Normally on the TR, the chimes play and then the doors close. Is this new?

Some things I wish were available in the village: Montreal-style bagels like Reither's used to sell (have to go east to Epicure or Cabbagetown Organics to get them) A bakery -- I'd settle for more fresh bread choices at Pusateri -- they sell out of Ace sandwich bread almost daily which...

I think if I booked at that future B&B and then discovered this building on my arrival that I'm promptly check in at a hotel. Ick. This building needs to be razed and replaced with something decent.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Then there should be a way of charging double for SUV-size baby carriages. I dislike both taking up so much space, but as long as it's on off-peak only, I don't care.

There's a big difference between the Met and 501. There was no front setback with the Met but there must be with 501. There were no setbacks on the left and right sides with the Met due to no neighbouring buildings but the only way to squeeze two towers into 501 is to build them right up to the...

At tonight's working group meeting, the architect presented a revised proposal with a 52-storey south towner sporting an enlarged footprint, growing closer to the lane way on the east, and a much reduced 22-storey (I think) north tower. The images were just massing studies with no details. This...

    Cabbagetown

Tried to go to Margaritas again last night and it's still closed with no sign in the window. Anybody know what happened? They were very established and doing fine as far as I could tell. The owner was great. Do you know if Viva Mexico re-opened or is it gone now?

I think it would take a few years to work, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. It's hard for some restaurants to survive now with limited patio options, but if they have a huge summer patio season, they could make it through the winter. So I think the retail mix might adjust to having the...

I agree, this project was very disappointing and inappropriate for the site. I believe the site is ripe for development but just because you can build 60 storeys, it doesn't mean this is the right spot for it. And the podium was a huge step back in terms of retail opportunities for Yonge. The...

I believe that the design was bad and the panel has done exactly what they're supposed to do. Hopefully this will lead to an improved proposal when it comes back again.

Is there a working group meeting this week? I believe the last two have been cancelled.

What happened to Viva Mexico on Parliament south of Wellesley. The lights are out but there is no sign. Somebody on the street told me it had been closed a couple of weeks but that he had heard it might re-open. Anybody know? Also, Margaritas was closed last night, too. I hope that's just...

Oh come on, there is dumpiness everywhere and good stuff everywhere. I lived in Cabbagetown until 6 months ago and it was an eclectic mix of good stuff (St. Jamestown Steak and Chops) and some not so nice (Loonie or Less, Wing Machine, Coffee Time, etc.) The village likewise has some great...

Any word on the York Medical Health Centre that is supposed to go into the second level on the east side of Church, just south of Wellesley? The last update I saw was in xtra in June (http://www.xtra.ca/public/Toronto/New_bar_to_open_in_former_Georges_Play_space-12158.aspx) and while that...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

What floor will Equinox be on? It says 199 Bay which is the west tower. The map link says on the path level but the link doesn't work for me. I can't think of any vacancies on the path level large enough for a health club.

This was discussed by the working group at the meeting this week (the evening of the 24th). The height has been reduced from 58/58 to 48 (north) / 52 (south). The dimensions of the buildings have been increased by removing the inner balconies (southern on north tower and northern on south tower)...

That's a really interesting idea! They might have had to absorb the alley to make it work but then there would be the new pedestrian street between the two buildings. Imagine if that pedestrian street was filled with cafe tables and chairs for the restaurants at ground level.
