    Original Vitrolite station tiles

I think you're right, it would be more practical to pick the best large block and preserve that behind glass. The preserved tiles don't need to be perfect, just clean before covering up and framing.

    Original Vitrolite station tiles

Maybe we should get the College tiles declared a heritage property and encase them, in their current state (albeit fully cleaned) behind some glass so that we can enjoy them for years to come. An exhibit of what the TTC once was and could be again. I'd contribute to a kickstarter for this.

    TTC Cartography, Signage, and Wayfinding

From a design standpoint, why is the corner radius for Ellesmere to Midland so different from Sheppard West and Finch West? They should be consistent. Why is Union showed as a big U rather than a round-cornered rectangle as it has been traditionally represented? The distances between King and...

    Church-Wellesley Village

I would fight a 40-storey tower for that corner tooth and nail. It would destroy the character of the village. I'm not saying the village needs to be poorly maintained older buildings, but a tower shouldn't be built at that intersection.

    Original Vitrolite station tiles

Run, don't walk, to College station to see the original Vitrolite tiles exposed during construction of new ad frames. I cleaned the decades of grime off a couple today on the southbound platform and they are gorgeous. I'd rather have these tiles in all of their cracked and broken glory than the...

The Chicago El has heaters, or at least it did when I lived there up to 2002. It got bitterly cold on the raised platforms, even with shelter walls.

Neighbourhood Node was my favourite part of urbantoronto. Very sad.

Why would you think a tenant would receive money from a developer? The store and restaurant owners lost their leases and livelihoods, it's the landlord who made the money. The stores and restaurants were kicked out. Moving your business, even across the street, would be very expensive. If...

Ali Baba's is relocating across the street beside Metro Sound & Music where a sushi shop used to be. That of course is slated to be another condo tower in the future, too.

I have heard that demolition starts October 5. Everybody is out at the end of September. Grab your last health nut smoothies and samosas while you can. Speaking of which, Papaya Hut will not immediately reopen, plans to open somewhere downtown in the spring but not necessarily in this area...

    Church-Wellesley Village

I should have snapped a pic, but the new fence around the Toronto Hydro parking lot has turned out very well. A parking lot fence is never going to be an attraction, but this has improved the streetscape.

The parking lot next to O'Grady's has been fenced off and has a "sold" sign on it. Anybody know what's going on with this?

There's a minor variance sign on the north side. "To reconfigure the internal design plans to permit an increase (56) in the number of dwelling units (832). Will be considered on July 8 at 2:00 pm in meeting room 2 at city hall. This is a substantial increase in units for a building with this...

I visit Papaya Hut and Kathmandu very regularly and will miss them. Not all of these businesses will find new homes nearby. I doubt the new building will have businesses like Papaya Hut or Kathmandu - more likely a Starbucks. Small businesses are what makes a neighbourhood. I agree this is a...

I don't understand why setbacks aren't required on all sides. This is going to feel huge on the Alexander side.

    520 Parliament @ Winchester (1s commercial/retail)

Perhaps this means the end of the garden centre. That used to be much larger before they split off the back and built that duplex you partially see in the picture. But where will they store the Elvis statues?

They were never busy. But rule one of retailing is to unlock the door. They weren't open when they said they'd be open, and by half an hour sometimes.
