But wouldn't it do the site more justice to avoid building anything? Just a nice square or park? It just amazes me that so few people care about the site and see it as a place to build a library or something. We have other lots for that kind of thing.
Since the document mentions the First Parliament site, why are we not taking this site more seriously? People on this forum get upset when some silly old house gets demolished, but the site of our first parliament buildings is an afterthought. It's arguably the single most important heritage...
I had a similar thought. For everyone who salivated over the new Uniqlo or a new Apple store, remember that these are chains too. I don't like seeing Pizza Pizza everywhere, but let's not throw out the baby with the bath water.
I called it expensive and ambitious, neither of which are synonyms for improbable. If you read through the last few comments again--slowly this time--you will see your error.
I didn't say they would.
But I would genuinely like your input on my original question: do you think the City (Council and Planning) would support a large enough project to justify such an expense? Are they thinking that big? This is an important site, and I hope they take advantage of the...
It would be expensive. The development of this site would have to be fairly big to justify the cost. Do you think the City is planning on approving something that ambitious?
The two existing buildings fronting Yonge are almost certainly staying where they are. I expect that they will be renovated. That should probably be kept in mind when predicting the overall development.
What are you talking about? The One and Mirvish Ghery aren't "gone" unless you have some secret information for us. The Oxford one was never a proposal. And Cumberland Terrace was folded into the new master planned block, which will probably be a huge improvement.
Does anyone think this redevelopment will include a mall? There is lots of corporate retail on Uptown Yonge that would probably be much happier in a nice mall at this location. That would also make Uptown Yonge far less corporate and allow it to have more interesting restaurants and shops. I...
I think this means that the master-planned block proposal will be held up for a fairly long time. Since the developers have already received rezoning for their previous proposals, some of it might fall within their existing approved zoning.
Is anyone concerned about this whole block being redeveloped? Uptown Yonge is vibrant and filled with great retail and restaurants. Will it be torn down block by block and replaced with large retail bays?
