    OMB Reform

I think it will do the opposite. The planning department is very pro-development, even though they quibble over height. They don't want to oppose development. And if this new process is faster than the OMB, it will move developments along more quickly. The biggest problem is that ambitious...

    OMB Reform

From the front page story: The Ontario Home Builder's Association (OHBA) is concerned that this new Tribunal will put politics ahead of smart growth planning, making it much harder to add more housing to municipalities across the province. Additionally, these changes could very well undermine...

    OMB Reform

    All true. Unfortunate, but true.

    OMB Reform

Same here. But it sounds like they will be required to make decisions based on existing laws and regulations, and appeals bodies have no reason to cave to public pressure.

    OMB Reform

The one bright side to this is that it might make the approvals process much quicker since developers will probably be filing fewer appeals in the future. Faster approvals are a very good thing.

    Toronto CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

It wouldn't... I seem to have misunderstood the question and answered out of context. I blame it on a lack of sleep.

New French restaurant at Danforth and Pape. I guess the sky isn't falling. http://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2017/05/french-street-food-restaurant-toronto/

    Toronto CIBC SQUARE | 241.39m | 50s | Hines | WilkinsonEyre

Previous posts make the point that CIBC has to vacate many buildings, all with different lease expiries. So they wouldn't be prepared to move in anyway.

Garden Tower (Yonge @ Walton, ?, 51s, Suulin)

The first image includes the massing for a tower to the south of it. What is that?

    The maple leafs are awesome.

    Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

The story says that "Over 3,000 people have pre-registered for a chance to purchase the approximately 416 suites to be offered in the tower." That's insane.

    Riverdale

Greektown is perfectly healthy. Restaurants often fail, which is why banks almost never lend to them. Between the time they go out of business and the time a new tenant moves in you sometimes get an empty storefront. Another reason why we see empty storefronts in many places is because landlords...

    Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

Completed in late 2022? How can it possibly take that long? Also, 305.6m?

    Toronto Pinnacle One Yonge | 345.5m | 105s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

Does the entire north part of this development share a common foundation? If so, this will be a massive construction site when the first tower starts construction.

    Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

What do you mean by "would be"? Are you saying there is a new investor?

    Toronto Pinnacle Lakeside | 158m | 49s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

I like that the ground level is broken up a bit compared to the massive podium of its neighbor to the east.

    Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

To anyone who knows how these things work: is this actually a threat to the project, or just to Mizrahi himself? I imagine his investors have a stake in seeing this completed since they can't usefully sue someone with empty pockets.

    Toronto The HUB | 258.46m | 59s | Oxford Properties | Rogers Stirk Harbour

Fair point. What I meant to say is that it's too far behind to compete for the current batch of tenants. And 160 Front is not on the market, and likely wont be until 16 York is done. That means that if we see another tower go ahead soon, it will most likely be Union Centre.

    Toronto The HUB | 258.46m | 59s | Oxford Properties | Rogers Stirk Harbour

I'm curious about what Oxford does here. Will it be a cheap tower like their RBC tower down the street, or will they design something excellent to compete with the nicer proposals? It will certainly depend on the tenants that they are going after. It wont be built this cycle, so it will probably...

    Toronto 16 York | 154.83m | 32s | Cadillac Fairview | a—A

16 York has much better transit and PATH connections than The Well. It's no contest there. 30 Bay is not far enough along for this cycle.
