When do we start showing the GO train lines on the map here? At least in the Toronto Area, I dont think its necessary to show the whole length because they go much further than the EXO

    Roads: Traffic Signals

Absolutely not. An inductive loop detector can only tell that there is a car above the inductive loop detector. The cameras can count exactly how many cars are in the left turn lane, and literally see the cars leaving the lane and hold the light until they clear the intersection (within reason)...

    Roads: Traffic Signals

The InSync system does it better than SCOOT or SCATS from what i've seen. Neither SCOOT nor SCATS use cameras to accurately detect and account for traffic volumes. You can throw around buzz words like adaptive system, but to me any system that is just taking button pressing from pedestrians...

    Roads: Traffic Signals

Hmm, i'm disappointed they went with SCATS. From what i've seen, InSync is way better. It does everything SCATS does and has cameras that monitor traffic flow and intelligently adjust the signals to it. I also believe InSync is cheaper. Weird.

    Roads: Traffic Signals

Im curious whatever happened to the results of the smart traffic lights pilot? https://urbantoronto.ca/news/2017/11/toronto-launches-smart-traffic-signals-pilot.29912 Its embarassing that in 2023 Toronto, the largest city in Canada doesn't have smart traffic lights. And this does not just...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

There are still a bunch of uncut curbs on the Beltline, which is extra frustrating when they've put so much money into those "Stations" art project along the trail. The fact that we are romanticizing a failed commuter line that lasted all of 2 years before going bankrupt instead of actually...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

So according to my friend who works in the bike lane department of the city, curb cuts are the most difficult thing to get done. They require sign off of three different departments. Its a lot of dumb red tape. He suggests calling and saying you are disabled and using a mobility device to get...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

yes, I believe its now at the point you are basically just re-expropriating land. Might as well just build anywhere at that point and not follow the old ROW. The tragedy began in the 1970s, and could have been saved then, but its too late now.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Heres a map of the above mentioned rail line. It actually went to Ottawa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Northern_Railway#/map/0 Also of note: It would have been a perfect ROW for the Scarborough Subway to run at grade or in a trench to STC and then Malvern town centre.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

You can see along the water east of Toronto, a white abandoned line (or in the 1997 maps, a third red line) that runs almost along/parallel to the existing CP/CN track to Montreal. That is an abandoned ROW that would mean HSR/HFR would have been easy peasy along the existing VIA route. I believe...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

They are historical and grandfathered systems. While they still exist, no one would build a new one to work in such a way. It's just not done anymore for safety and other reasons.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Even considering this is one of the most densely populated areas in Canada, it still pales in comparison to the density of the Netherlands, especially the places up north where all those white abandoned lines are.

I assume the Toronto -> Smiths Falls route isn't even at this stage yet because they have to first see if its even feasible at all.

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

I would imagine if they built a bridge across the Eastern Channel, it could or would be built in such a way that vehicles could use it. Say, with the ability to support the weight of vehicles, and bollards etc in a way that would otherwise only make it accessible to pedestrians (bollards removed...

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

I think it would replace the Wards ferry. The other 2 no, but they replacement should only cover a single ferry in my opinion that operates Ferry Docks -> Center -> Hanlans - Ferry Docks. The rest of the money should go to a Ward's bridge. I do think this would only work in conjunction with a...

Id rather see the money spent on a bridge to Wards, but I always seem to be in the minority

Also, the Toronto Islands already IS a destination park. You'd be better off building another one somewhere else and covering more area

Its amazing that a city that got it so right with REM Phase 1 could fail so spectacularly at phase 2

    VIA Rail

Whatever happens, any increased service to Sarnia needs to be along the CN corridor through Brantford. The existing route through Kitchener takes 5! hours from Sarnia. Its abysmal. I don't mind keeping that milk run for people who want to travel from Sarnia to say, Stratford etc, but all new...
