GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

There are some mentions about operational waivers in the Stage 2 report published by the city of Ottawa last Friday. They are similar except for interior layout and doors I think. I'm going to try to get more info about Ottawa's now that more info had been announced. There are some details...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

In Ottawa they got around this by procuring the vehicles as a separate contract from the rest of the upgrade works being done. For the Confederation Line they stuck with Alstom for consistency of course, and for the Trillium Line Stadler was selected nearly a year and a half ago to provide...

Well it's already looking like a hot mess. Completion pushed back to 2025 Increase in price tag to $4.6 billion (in which the city will swallow the additional $1 billion in costs) Trillium Line closure extended from 16 months to 27/28 22 months SNC Lavalin etc.

Extend the existing passing tracks slightly and fix the issues with the signalling system. Grade separating Ellwood helps too. IIRC there's huge delays in the signalling system updating which slows trains down a lot. Longer passing tracks will also allow for running meets. Brookfield can be...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

Assuming cuts do happen and Riverside South gets axed, some money for the Trillium Line extension could be shifted around and go towards fixing the signalling issues on the existing line that were created in the last upgrade. They could spend that money to finally bring the frequency on the line...

The airport spur is already going to be barebones as a single track line with one passing loop and will reuse the existing LINTs. I don't think there'd be much of an advantage to using a people mover system once you consider the costs and complications of maintaining a 4th type of rail vehicle...

It was requested by the airport authority (even if it meant needing a transfer). It's being funded entirely by higher levels of government, so the City wasn't about to try to stop it.

Which route is that? The 111 has gone to Carleton since (2011) before the last upgrade on the Trillium Line. Why's that? The document on the recommendation of Woodroffe also stated that the expanded Belfast yard could handle service requirements. Not ideal, but still manageable.

If Moodie is cut then a storage facility will be built near Woodroffe along the CN tracks. Edit: Belfast Yard has also already been expanded to accommodate the additional trains. There are capacity issues on the Trillium Line that need to be addressed. The line as-is can't handle peak traffic...

There are some concerns that the handover date will be delayed a third time: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-lrt-third-delay-possible-1.5010032?cmp=rss RTG executives are being summoned (in person) to a FEDCO meeting next Tuesday. According to a user on the SSP forum with some...

I think there are plenty of people who would agree with you. If it happens the costs will (and should) be split between 5 governments (Ottawa, Gatineau, Ontario, Quebec, and the Federal Government).

Double Decker Buses in Ontario - Safety?

Those are bumpers. They protect the front of the bus usually from tree branches and that sort of thing.

You can read and load cards, but no tap to pay yet. That's assuming you're using an Android device with NFC capabilities.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

You can get them from the PRESTO vending machines at stations or at OC Transpo service centres as well (but not at Shoppers). With the Confederation Line set to open soon I'd assume they have all the new stations' vending machines stocked full of them..

    VIA Rail

I believe it's currently increasing, at least on the corridor. They've steadily added trains between Ottawa and Toronto over the last few years.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

I find it interesting that it notes that the Confederation Line is considered a federal transit project. Does that differ from being a federal railway/rail line? It doesn't seem like the Confederation Line is being required to operate under a certificate of fitness (i.e. as part of Capital...

    Ottawa Transit Developments

The entire O-Train system is being designed to be grade separated. A few years ago they removed the only at-grade pedestrian crossing on the Trillium Line and the extension to Riverside South will also be fully grade separated. Stage 3 to Kanata/Stittsville and Barrhaven is also being designed...
