Toronto 2 Bloor East Renovations | 28.45m | 6s | Brookfield | Adamson

The Plaza entrance was immediately to the left of the doors on Bloor (closest to Yonge), and was two screens. I remember seeing Medicine Man with Sean Connery and Lorraine Bracco (pre sopranos) there on a school trip. Long stairs/escalator down.

I think it kinda helped theatres back then to have so many. I feel like you could step out of the subway at Yonge and Bloor and pick from Plaza, Uptown, Cumberland and Varsity on a whim. It was like, I’m gonna see a movie in just haven’t decided where.

Ok....I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but .....I don't think most UT'ers will be happy..

The proposal here slashes the retail in the bunker to the main floor only and proposes floors 2 to 5 be converted to self-storage. Nope, not kidding, yes, on the mink mile.

Architect is Adamson

Retail is pegged at ~5359m2 or 57, 684ft2

Total area of former store (including concourse): 28,426 sm, / 305, 974ft2

I guess it looks less janky than what they where proposing...but it now feels like it's designed for people who appreciate Cybertrucks. And just as obnoxious looking.

Out of all of the possible uses, Brookfield goes with...... self-storage in prime downtown land???

They've got to be completely drunk out of their minds. This is the kind of stuff that absolutely makes me irate.

Think outside of the box if you cant come up with anything good (ie: commercial food kitchens).

What kind of garbage is this?

Wow this is a surprise and not a good one. The only silver lining is that it appears the retail along Bloor will be more animated than the existing. The upper exterior walls were never an architectural masterpiece. One can only hope that the metal cladding proposed will have at the very least least SOME visual interest. Hmmmm?

Could they do a mural, public art installation, or architectural "feature wall" on floors 2 to 5? If they fix the upper part to be less sterile, I think that might win a lot of people over.

Where else are all those people living in shoebox-condos downtown going to store their stuff?
I've noticed a bunch of new self-storage places opening up in the last 5 years. Could that be why?

In the 1/2 of the shoe box condos sitting vacant, of course!

Just poke a hole in the wall to the unit next door that's empty, (w/o compromising structure) and turn the entire thing into the new Master Bedroom and walk-in closet with ensuite.

Take the bed out in the existing unit and you can maybe find room to eat or possibly enough to add some counter space to the kitchen.

Wow, that was the very last thing I would have predicted :) But honestly maybe it isn't as much as a surprise as it sounds at first glance ... namely ... think of it as temporary usage for the next ~ 10 years or so. Currently condo market / office market is clearly very poor (and even if we see a rebound in purpose built office buildings there are more conducive sites downtown like the hub).
