I really hate this area, it’s so dumpy and one of the truly embarrassing parts of the station

Not to mention, it's regularly full of people who openly smoke crack pipes and often yell at others walking through the teamway or the adjacent sidewalk. On occasion you can find one or two security officers standing around the northern end completely ignoring the situation.

Someone already moved into the new CIBC Square bridge hallway

There's just no enforcement of policies in our public places. Everyone is entitled to use the station like anyone else but when you start accumulating your belongings in an area and stinking up the place so that nobody else can use it, then you have to leave.

I work late so I often frequent the station when most people have gone home and it's both heartbreaking to see who is left without a home to go to and disappointing that our policymakers let this happen and don't enforce existing rules to maintain public space, public.

^Security camera right above too…

…I think it’s likely a combination of not securing the area yet, staffing stretched thin, prioritizing and reluctance to use force (which is a good thing, IMO). I assume at some point they will get to this…just likely not in a time that many are hoping for. And for what that’s worth.

Immediately underneath the camera, they'd never think to look there!

staffing stretched thin,

Walk past the security desk any time of day (including rush hour) and it's a bunch of guys just yucking about, some staring at their phones so long they don't even see you waiting at the window.

...3 out of the 4 isn't such a bad thing.

I got this from my contact @ Union Station.

Incredible! "This Summer" so safe to assume after the World Cup.

Speaking of heritage plaques, I found this wandering around the station.

And there it is, a (to me) unseen photo of that original clock and Traveller's Aid booth.

If you can ask your contact to dispel the mystery please, is it returning to the Great Hall as it seems to be in the Union Station revitalization rendering and referenced on its website?

Speaking of the Traveller's Aid booth, I went in for a closer look, and it's in really bad shape. Besides the horrid condition of the booth itself, neither the board nor even the displays below them work anymore.

So yeah, I have to believe that this will be restored too, they're not going to go through the trouble of restoring the floor with stone from the original quarry, and then leaving this piece of shit sitting in the middle of the Great Hall.

If anyone wants a visual of a big part of why the security situation is a mess at Union Station, here's a map:
(i'll also add that the city's security firm that they contracted is virtually useless and inept, and Metrolinx generally does a somewhat better job with the area's they're responsible for)
