I followed up. The ticket says: “resolved, covered with hot asphalt.”

Not only was their intended resolution lazy and ugly, they lied: no asphalt was applied. The corner remains a tripping hazard.

Maybe I’m starting to agree with Rob Ford on “taxpayer waste”. The city bureaucracy itself is wasteful, contractors are getting away with bad work, and even city workers are out there in some cases lying about doing their jobs when they didn’t.

I received confirmation that there is 2 year warranty on work done by a contractor. They have to go back and fix it. I’ll make sure they’re held to that.

Maybe a new award of the month.

That guy looks pretty angry about having to go back and re-do the work that he should've done right the first time. He might have to go back again. Left a broken paver.

That said, the corner is now evened out.

But not so fast! The corner on the opposite side of the plaza at York St is still a jagged mess. I hope they didn't "forget". I'll wait a few days and check back on the ticket to "remind" them.

I'm so snarky about this only because we pay these people above what they would be paid in the private sector yet they have absolutely no pride in their work and we the public have to live with their shit day in and day out. I'd be mortified to present less than my best workmanship to the public.

Construction fencing has appeared in the Great Hall over the last week, closing off the unused VIA counters east of the ramp to the VIA departures concourse. Anyone know why?

I didn't see any plans to remove those tickets booths. But the space behind them is not in use. Maybe they're being leased. Harvey's anyone?

*For those who don't remember, this is the now the York Concourse entrance.

I assume that long existing concrete wall running east-west behind the newly poured columns is coming out?

That was the plan, alongside multiple openings in other areas, but heres what one of the documents has to say:

Supposedly the plan going ahead is only maintaining the existing pre-USEP openings to the former south boarding areas. I have my doubts crowding will work as flawlessly as their simulation suggests, but they are the experts…

It might be difficult to see in the flow diagram, so I outlined the differences below on my maps:

May as well post this too! Totally forgot to

Browsing around I rediscovered blueprints for USEP that happen to show the additional legacy platform entrances planned at the time. I added these entrances in the bottom diagram.

If the platform reconfiguration isn’t significantly changed before it happens (probably unlikely), the concourses will have:

23 new staircases
9 new elevators

To accommodate some of these entrances, the York & Bay Concourses will be expanded:

Metrolinx back of house space removed
Lost and Found office removed (already closed down)
Ticket booths removed (already closed down)

Preparing for the removal of the central info booth, which has been postponed (logically) to after FIFA. Traveler's Aid to move to this area. Oh, and ah, Harvey's...
