Hello David,

Thank you for contacting 311 Toronto.

Your email has been forwarded to Toronto Hydro for review / response / resolution as it appears this may be their asset. If you do not receive a reply within three business days, please contact contactus@torontohydro.com directly.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you require further information or assistance.

If it doesn’t have a light fixture on the pole it’s probably lost.
I wonder which pole is #67?

Whoa. Did you report that issue or was it already there? Amazing if it was already there, confirming Hydro's response to the Fixer that they're taking care of it.

I did not report it. Maybe yours or @DSCToronto. My money is on “it’s fixed before FIFA June 1”. Only one pole thou.
We shall see, or not! It does appear that Toronto Hydro Streetlighting has taken ownership of both the wooden pole AND the old (unused) concrete one. They are actually quite speedy when they start - though the fact the wooden pole has 'attachments" (from the police??) may slow them down. We may all need a new cause - or summer may arrive and we can get out more!

The pole and support cable on Queens Quay at Rees St that was supposed to be removed when the central waterfront revitalization was built 15 years ago but has been clotheslining unsuspecting distracted pedestrians for a decade and a half.

There are actually TWO wooden poles on south side of Queen's Quay - on both sides of Robertson Crescent. You are right they were supposed to be removed when Hydro finished installing some conduits on Rees Street - a decade or more ago. I have asked WT if they have any insights/

Looks like work is finally set to begin in the Great Hall. Lighting and flooring. The centre info booth, clocks and former departure monitors are to come out, apparently never to return. Unclear whether past intentions to use the space for events, a la Chicago Union Station's Great Hall, are still envisioned.
No idea what plans are for the north side of the Hall, currently masked by art-adorned hoarding.

False alarm. Nothing has changed here. We already know that work on the lighting and floor are moving ahead but no on-site preparatory work is underway.

I do hope the desk and clock are replaced, perhaps with a stone desk and classic clock. Shouldn’t be difficult to replicate the original if they’re getting stone from the same quarry.

Would also be good to have church pew style seating along the centre with a proper train station PA system and a split flap arrivals and departments board so people can wait for their VIA rail trains in the Great Hall instead of lined up down the ramp.

I am pretty sure nothing will start until soccer is over and lead time for floor stone was 6+ months.

I agree. Yet another one of those things that the city of Toronto had 8 years to get accomplished in advance of welcoming the eyes of the World on our city but instead completely missed the opportunity to leverage the catalyst to urge the federal and provincial governments to get these things done in time.

I had a closer look at the original help desk and clock and I have amazing news! First of all, look at this beauty! This desk was managed by the Travellers' Aid Society of Toronto.

For a while, I thought the clock outside on Front was the original Great Hall clock but they're different.

Now to the good news: the desk and clock were dismantled in 1994 to make way for the current desk and departures board. They were put in storage, not destroyed. As part of the Union Station Revitalization, the original clock and desk are being refurbished to return to the Great Hall!

The original clock is stored with the desk. I imagine they have not yet been repositioned because the floor has been awaiting replacement.

While I hope they bring it back to original condition, I can't imagine the magnetic departures boards will be used so it's probably acceptable to replace them with vertical displays.

The help desk is staffed by Travellers' Aid currently, not sure if they did so in 1929. SEE; https://www.travelersaid.org/blog/tai-members/travellers-aid-toronto/ and https://www.travelersaid.org/about-us/history/
