Maybe you should wake up and stop living in the past. Nothing stays the same and the world needs to evolve. People and things are more modernized now and why in the world would they even want to keep this old and outdated building ? Of course anyone in their right mind would want to get rid of it and add a more modernized building. The world is evolving and I think this is a great idea. I love the new building that is going to be put here and hopefully the rest of the area will take action and change because this whole area needs a complete makeover.
That ain't it, chief. One needs to compare what is being proposed to what is being replaced. And what is replacing it should always look and be better to give any validity to your argument.Thusly, what is being proposed here is clearly not, reasonably concluding it's de-evolved at best.

...if you'd ask me, they should work with the elder structure that gives that corner character - 3 stories plus retail. As opposed to nuking it with something bland, grey and sterile, IMO.

It’s still a generic-looking infill project, devoid of life. This time, the long facade has a curious 60s/70s walk-up apartment look to it, but with the trendy non-brainer grey/black material and colour scheme. The windows looks to be a mess, with busy mullion patterns, the windows don’t align with each other, and the over-used spans of precast lentils and sills which looks distracting. I don’t know if it’s sloppy draftsmanship or poor design, some of these sills and lentils have inconsistent extensions from the windows, and some of the vertical precast don’t even meet up with the windows (why is there a narrow strip of brick between it?!). The projected box window facing Davenport is poorly proportioned and detailed, and will have clumsy-looking spandrel panels.
I agree with most of you about retaining the existing building. It’s has such nice details you don’t see much these days. The design just needs to be more thoughtful and sympathetic to the neighbourhood and neighbouring buildings. There is a lack of context and proper design here.

I don't think this link has been posted yet.

1859-1863 Davenport Road / 502-504 Symington Avenue is located at the southwest corner of Davenport Road and Symington Avenue in the Carleton Village neighbourhood. The building dates to circa 1890 and first housed a grocery shop and the Davenport Village post office operated by William Rowntree. The Rowntrees lived above the shop.
