Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Ford government failed to disclose environmental and Greenbelt risks of Highway 413, says Auditor General

If only the residents of Caledon file an Injunction against the Ford government of the Construction of 413. That would be great. Also recent polling shows Ford is at 44% while the Ontario Liberals are at 35% in Ontario

The online map was apparently updated March 12th for the project:

I don't think that's telling us anything new. Am I looking at the right map?

All it tells me is that the government is trying to dumb down the consultation.

I'm referring to the detailed alignment map here:

I'm sure it's mostly minor refinements to the design as design has progressed - the last update to it was in November.

It also appears they have published the EA on the 12th of March. I'm very happy they're going ahead with this project as southern Caledon is experiencing a large boom in regards to development, the current road infrastructure is insufficient and this project will help rectify that.

My issues are the lack of interchanges at Dixie, Old school road, and Coleraine.

I'm going to predict the volume of traffic weaving from the combined 407/413 off ramp across the collectors lanes to the Trafalgar offramp will become a problem relatively early in this projects life if not adjusted.

I guess another basketweave? Although I heard Doug isn’t into that anymore….

  • I was cuirious about Mayfield Road. It looks like the 20-year old bridge will be replaced.
  • They have a partial interchange at Weston Road, which is very close to 400. Maybe something similar could be done for what you list.
Maybe they can save a few bucks and cancel that BRT and just put it on the shoulder.
For this to be much more useful, the Ford gov needs to buy back the southbound portion of 407, so that 413 can stretch down to the QEW.

The biggest thing missing for this, long term, is to connect 413/400 to 407/412. Make this a real ring road.

Why the 412. Go all out and connect to the 418!

And this would require the paving over the Greenbelt?
What is the greenbelt anyways. It's just a made up line on a map. When my grandparents came here, the Greenbelt was the 401 - which did not exist yet and was put through "precious" farmland. Later people said it was north of highway 7. Then Major Mac.
It's inevitable that if the GTA population continues to rise, the Greenbelt will just keep moving out. And I don't see any political will to reverse the massive population growth we have seen the past 10, 20, or 50 years.
And by the way, this 413 extension would skirt just south of the edge of (most of) the current boundary - if you believe it's a magic line where full development is allowed just south of it and the environment is destroyed if you build just north of it.

buy back the entire 407 from 401/413 interchange to QEW/403 in Hamilton

Have 413 follow the bought back 407 route

Renumber the 403 in Mississauga to 410, and have the 403 officially start in Hamilton at the QEW/413/403 interchange.

I believe originally 403 was supposed to start (or end) at the Richview Expressway in Toronto (that never got built) and follow Eglinton/Eastgate to Square 1. When this was cancelled, it was connected to 401. It was also supposed to be what is now 407 through Burlington.

And that short stretch of 403 from the Ford Plant to Burnhamthorpe was supposed to be the 407.

I think there is enough corporate history at MTO that if the Burlington potion of 407 ever became Provincial again - the push would be to call it 403. Then by default the 413 would have to go to the Ford Plant.
