Finch West Line 6 LRT

Has this been done? I hadn't heard of this happening.

My understanding is that as of today, 3 intersections on Finch W have full TSP operating.

I was also of the understanding that speed limits have been increased to 50km/ph between stops, and 35km/ph at intersections.

I think, at this point, they only shaved another minute or two off the schedule. I imagine there is more to come.
I am saying this based on hypothetical, not what currently is planned. They should remove restrictions at intersections, it makes the LRT painfully slow. They should remove stations that are close to one another. They should gave extended green lights, with extended green lights, my trip could have been 7 minutes shorter. With no red lights trip would have been only a addtion minute shorter. I think a good compromise for those who drive would be light remains green if LRT is within 100 meters of intersections at least at major intersections. Maybe for smaller intersection a more aggressive TSP could be used to avoid red lights since there would be less pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

I understand the mention of stop removal, as it would be immensely beneficial, but it sits in the same realm of possibility as the elevating the at-grade segment of Line 5. City will never push for it, MX has no interest in mothballing infrastructure (even if it's worse than useless) and the whole neighbourhood would have a melt down if it was even attempted.

Project run times with TSP all you want, but the stops that are there, will stay, and it's a bit pointless to imagine what essentially amount to a rebuild of segments of the line.

Line 6 Finch West moves to full operations and extends service hours this Sunday

March 10, 2026

Beginning this Sunday, March 15, LRT service on Line 6 Finch West will be extended to 1 a.m. Trains will arrive every six and a half minutes during weekday morning and afternoon rush hours, and every 10 minutes at all other times.

With this change, late-evening replacement buses will no longer operate after 10 p.m. along the Finch West corridor. The TTC’s Blue Night bus service will operate from 1 a.m. until the start of train service at 6 a.m. Monday to Saturday, and 7:30 a.m. on Sundays.

In the event of an unexpected service disruption, shuttle buses will continue to be available if needed.

Line 6 Finch West opened in December 2025 under temporary “soft opening” conditions, with early nightly closures providing the line’s maintainers, Mosaic Transit Group, with an extended maintenance window, allowing staff to become more familiar with the line and monitor it for any issues while in full revenue service.

This move to full service comes as the City of Toronto is making changes to traffic signals at all intersections along Line 6 Finch West to allow LRT trains to move through intersections before left-turning vehicles. Additional transit signal priority measures are in the works and will be rolled out in the coming months, further improving trip speeds and the overall customer experience.

The TTC serves as the operator for Line 6 Finch West, bringing more than a century of expertise as North America’s third busiest public transit agency. Under agreements with Metrolinx and the City of Toronto, the TTC is responsible for operating trains, providing security and revenue control, and staffing stations to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. The line’s infrastructure and vehicles are maintained by Mosaic Transit Group (MTG) under contract to Metrolinx. As operator, the TTC works in close partnership with Metrolinx, the City, and project partners to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient service, integrating Line 6 Finch West into Toronto’s broader transit.

Why is the limit still 50 when the limit on Finch Ave W. was raised to 60 just before opening?

Realistically there are only 2 stops worth removing and 1 is next to a grocery store in a low income area.

This is equivalent to saying "No point in trying to push for something better because it will never happen". There was a push to make the line even faster and the city acted. There was a push for stop removals along bus and streetcar routes in the past and many stops were removed. There was push for a lot of things over the years and a lot of it was listened to. The whole point of this forum is to discuss and hopefully to try for something better. This is a defeatist mindset.

Sure, I'd be happy to see it happen, but talking about signal changes (actually happening this week) and stop removal (likely to never occur) in the same sentence is really just not an accurate portrayal of reality. We can all pull numbers out of air if x,y,z happen, but that's just talk when there is absolutely no inclination that any level of government wishes to do this thing.

You talking about the NO FRILLS stop?? If so, it should be removed but it will have an impact on the area north of the station with a very long walk to other stations. Is it worth the saving of a minute or two for some riders while inconveniences existing and new riders especial new riders from part of the plaza land that will see new residential development??

If this was a streetcar line I’d probably agree but two stops won’t make or break the line in my opinion!

Last week I timed distance to walk from Albion to mount olive. Total time was 9 minutes. It was a 4 minute walk from Albion to Stevenson and 5 minutes walk from stevenson to Kipling. I wouldn't necessarily call that a long walk. I think a better idea would be extend 118 Thistletown Bus to Terminate at Albion mall.

The distance from Albion to no frills is 200 meters roughly. The distance from stevenson to no frills is 180 meters roughly. That's a 20 meter difference, the equivalent of 6 parking spots. My point being Albion could easily serve shoppers and Stevenson is redundant.
