Unfortunately, the TPA does not seem to publish any Committee or Board documentation. It would be good to see the background to this.

I'm already scared...in the picture.there's busses on the pier, which seems incompatible with the long-awaited plan of turning the eastern part of the slip into a park (it looks like a park in the rendering, but busses would have to drive through it to get to the pier).

There were going to be buses anyway, w/the WWERLT project, the parking for buses in front of the Habour Castle is to be eliminated, the intent was to shift it parallel to what is currently the slip.

That said, I've only begun to dig, so I'm not sure what they are contemplating here. i can think of many options, some more dubious than others.

We shall see!

wow Wow and WOW. This is exciting especially considering this is right downtown/CBD rather than over by Cherry beach. This will no doubt create a lot of tourism business plus opportunities for locals to potentially take a cruise.
Do you seriously think that locals are not taking cruises because the current Cruise Ship Terminal is at Cherry Beach? That said, a decent terminal nearer downtown would certainly be better for passengers from elsewhere. Of course, the are are SO MANY details to be worked out and when they talk of a 10-year plan you can bet nothing will actually happen for 15-20, even if it moves ahead.

Well, the hassle of people getting to Cherry Beach by transit probably makes it less appealing.

The lift bridge being a mess (due to repairs/maintenance) for years certainly has not helped in terms of anyone wanting to go anywhere near Cherry Beach or Unwin Ave.

(I say this as someone who goes down there every weekend in the summer to play sports. It sucks.)

Yes Debbie Downer yes.
Of course there are many details to be worked out. Rome wasn't built in a day neither was Toronto.

This should be combined with the Ferry Terminal Expansion, which lets face it, is dead right now. A consolidated ferry/Cruise terminal in the West side of the slip, where there is already existing/planned vehicle access to the water via the WELRT rework of the slip.

The Eastern side of the slip could stay for a signature park with a vista into the terminal and the water.

If they are going to Lake fill for anything, it would be great to get two for one here!

...could be pitched as the first stage to Doug's island. >.<

Aha, that sneaky @DSCToronto added images to his post after the fact.

Which are revelatory.

They show a new pier extended off the west side of the slip.

Interesting idea.

Initial thoughts:

May be subject to a federal EA

Has navigation implications for other large vessels

Could alter sediment flows.

Is there sufficient capacity to move pedestrians to Queen's Quay with the current proposed promenade?
