And in 15 years,ALTO opens up making the Island airport redundant.
UPX was supposed to make YTZ redundant. And yet.And in 15 years,ALTO opens up making the Island airport redundant.
Though some people who live in the area had that hope, I do not think that was ever the intention. The aim was to use YTZ for shorter 'commuter flights' and YYZ for longer ones and make it easier to get to YYZ. It IS easier/faster to get to YYZ with UPX but YTZ is closer to lots of travellers so there is continuing pressure to allow longer and longer flights (and thus larger, or jet, planes) at YTZ.UPX was supposed to make YTZ redundant. And yet.
I guess the key is whether it makes sense economically for the greater society...Though some people who live in the area had that hope, I do not think that was ever the intention. Or for those connected to 'powerful people"!I guess the key is whether it makes sense economically for the greater society...
The airport may still exist, but only serve private planes.Or for those connected to 'powerful people"!
UPX does not solve what ALTO can. There are over 70 flights from YYZ that are to places ALTO will serve. Not to mention the fact that many of those destinations also fly from YTZ. If ALTO is fast, frequent and reliable, Most of those flights won't be needed. Which then makes YYZ have less traffic, and may make YTZ no longer worth using.UPX was supposed to make YTZ redundant. And yet.
High speed rail has also been 15 years from killing YTZ for the last 15 years, and there’s a good chance the same will be true in your projected 15 years, given the current vacillating over routes.UPX does not solve what ALTO can. What would happen to Porter if half their flights to places like Ottawa and Montreal are cut?

With the projected speeds, if you want to ignore all the time you need to spend being at an airport early, ALTO will never be competitive. However, if you factor that in, ALTO may get you there just as fast.Alto can get me from Toronto to Ottawa in an hour?
No one will need to be at the train station early and wait? With the projected speeds, if you want to ignore all the time you need to spend being at an airport early, ALTO will never be competitive. However, if you factor that in, ALTO may get you there just as fast.
As understand it it will be no more different than Via is now. So, no extra security to contend with. Just go to your gate, show your ticket and ID and board your train. No one will need to be at the train station early and wait?
