Yes, unless you're living in New York City, it's often almost expected to have your own car in the US. From some family I have down there, it's pretty common to have 2 or 3 cars even for a family of 4 and such. The price of insurance is quite cheaper down there. But also it's just how car-centric the American lifestyle and mindset is. Even Chicago felt very much like that.

It's one of those "What am I looking at?'...

...and oh right, there used to be a bus terminal there.
 
Chestnut Street is completely fenced off around the property now, in addition to Edward.

Looks like they put wooden stakes on the west side of the west property. Looks like there is a gas line there...

And the notice board for the construction crew has been placed on site but nothing set up in it yet...

And cameras installed on the east building. Apparently, demo will start soon but the heritage parts of the building need to be addressed beforehand (of course).
