Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Cedarvale has the same doors as well. And I really think it only exists cause Metrolinx wanted to make it clear that Line 5 was their property, even if it's a TTC line, and make it ''seperate'' from Line 1/2.
The doors are a fire code requirement nothing else.

Interestingly even the underground segment of the line is surprisingly slow. Between Keele and Yonge it's slower than the Bloor subway, despite having fewer stops.

For context, 21 km/h is slower than the Waterloo LRT, which doesn't have a single grade separation and goes through dozens of traffic signals.
The underground speed restrictions of 60 km/h (until March) probably have something to do with that.

That would make sense, and how I assumed it would be, but this had me second-guessing:

And one time I did see fare enforcement (POOs) happen well inside the paid area, at Main, on the level between street & platform, which seems utterly pointless vs. fare enforcement at the gates & other entry points.
I've seen fare enforcement officers in subway stations before, where a temporary barrier is set up and everyone has to have their Prestos scanned as they pass through. That's why I was concerned that there might be free and non-free areas of the stations, and if the washrooms will be in the non-free areas, since I might be there for a while.

So, you're saying POOs might be controlling washroom access? Oh dear! 🤣

I am not on board, though I am watching a livestream, and it seems to be zooming through the underground sections (thankfully). The surface stops, well... that's another story.

Additional thoughts thus far:

Stations are quite chilly this AM, I understand why that water pipe burst at Mt Dennis earlier in the week. It must be below freezing at platform level and around -12c in the main station level.

Lots of upgrades to the waypoint finding at the stations, worth bumping that other thread on the topic.

The trains are tiny relative to the platform width. I think it is going to be awkward with people waiting at the platform ends and then running towards the middle of the platform when the train arrives. It has me slightly concerned that day 1 capacity is a bit low relative to Eglinton’s passenger demands, at least until they add extra cars. It is reminiscent of Sheppard Line which also has fewer cars and longer headways, creating illusion of being at-capacity.

The Flexity Freedom vehicles are also so much nicer than the Alstom vehicles used on Finch.
