Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Doug Ford...

former high school dropout, former post-secondary school dropout, alleged former drug dealer, given a nepotism job at family business

Mark Carney...

graduated in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in economics magna cum laude at Harvard University, former Governor of Bank of Canada, former Governor of Bank of England.

Who would you want to deal in global economics?

I note NES taking more shots at Doug Ford...Could this be the first of many spats between the two to come?

First time I've been impressed by Nate Erskine-Smith. With Canadians seeing clearly what populism and idiotic incompetence looks like south of the border, intelligent competence seems to be en vogue.

The contrast between Doug Ford and NES will serve the latter well in this environment. We may be seeing the end of folksy populism. I just wish we didn't have to wait another 3 years to see the end of Fordism.

I kind of Like Nate Erskine Smith.
He got a bit of a raw deal federally. He was appointed to Cabinet in March. He did the ethical thing and sold his holding to avoid conflict of interest.
He showed up Mark Carney and was removed from Cabinet in late April after the post-election cabinet formed.
Hopefully that's a sign that we won't be nearly as corrupt as Ford.

He's definitely a frontrunner for the OLP leadership.

Doug Ford's role as Captain Canada seems in some danger now that he seems to have moved to be Captain Ontario and full steam ahead against Chinese EVs and to hell with Manitoban Crown Royale and Western Canadian Canola. It IS complicated and he has never been too smart - this diplomacy stuff is probably beyond him. Blow-up Alert!
What does a Tesla or Kia EV have over a Chinese one? None are made in Canada. Let the market decide.

And what happened to reducing interprovincial trade? Will we ever see BC wines in the LCBO?

If I try to send a case of Lightning Rock wine to a customer in Ontario? We’d face a 71% markup from the LCBO, 13% HST, a container fee, and the threat of regulatory action unless we operate in a legal grey zone. I’ve offered to collect and remit HST or PST depending on the province, a simple, honest fix. But no government has acted.

If Chinese EV tariffs are dropped, would not be surprised for most Teslas sold in Canada to be Chinese.
