I would say it is far more significant than a generational project, though I am not sure what the proper term might be. Century project?
 
I have a crazy idea as someone with 0 engineering/transit background. How viable would a terminus in the portlands be?

could help with speeding up the funding and construction for the waterfront east lrt and broadview streetcar extensions

A direct connection to the GO network would be more convenient to more people. The Port Lands doesn’t have that.

I legitimately thought I was in the alto thread, I was trying to find my earlier post here in it
 
They're installing bollards at the corners of Front and Bay and Front and York.

The jersey barriers have been moved out of the way. Suddenly, it's clear that it was never about public protection, but cover-our-ass-ness by some pencil pushers at the city. They're clearly not worried about any vehicle incursions onto the plaza.

oh.. and that wooden pole. Will it finally be removed when they install the bollards there? Or will it remain as a historical landmark with its heritage protection?

Last I recall, it was a police equipment pole. But it's not even plugged in.

They don't need cameras, they have bird shaped drones.
 
Are they removing the ugly beige concrete blocks that were recently installed or are those staying to continue to make the street look like 💩

No, those are staying. They’re certainly not beige anymore. They’re mud tinged mixed with an assortment of graffiti, spilled food, coffee and other unmentionable fluids.

I will celebrate if this wooden pole is removed! I doubt it will be 😥.

...makes me wonder though if they made these more fanciful (and expensive), would it of not ran into the same fate?

Maybe not, last time I investigated it it was unclear who owns it. Both Hydro and the City said it did not belong to them and the police (whose equipment appears to be attached to it, apparently have no poles of their own.

So who does maintenance and inspects this pole? I assume someone has to every so often

Anything that involves a car is just going to make the city put a hundred more jersey barriers up, I propose one of these:

Though both the City and Hydro deny all ownership of that pole, I am 99% sure it was erected to support temporary streetlights about a decade ago so it was likely erected by Hydro. As nobody seems to think they own it, it gets no 'maintenance' and if it were to 'fall over' would presumably not be replaced. I like the beaver idea but the pole looks as though it was soaked in creosote so it may not taste too good!
