Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Doug Ford's role as Captain Canada seems in some danger now that he seems to have moved to be Captain Ontario and full steam ahead against Chinese EVs and to hell with Manitoban Crown Royale and Western Canadian Canola. It IS complicated and he has never been too smart - this diplomacy stuff is probably beyond him. Blow-up Alert!

BOZO ERUPTION

Question, why do recent polls show Doug Ford’s PCs is still leading in the polls?. Even when healthcare is failing in Ontario and homelessness has increased after Ford won and not to mention few scandals that Ford is experiencing with. Also the same pollsters don’t even list the New Blue party or the Ontario Party in their polls as an alternative to the PCs for those who are Conservative and lean right.

Because the NDP, Liberals and Greens all basically collapsed.

Trudeau hate tainting the Liberal Party, there was little chance of Crombie winning, and her tending to lean to the right didn't help at all. Unfortunately, Marit Styles looks similar enough to Crombie that she could be her younger sister; which no doubt didn't help the NDP in any way (I personally saw people mistake Marit Styles for Bonnie Crombie on a number of occasions), and Mike Schrier has a good message, but not enough oomph to spread it.

I think the polls will change if we see someone with a strong progressive message and the ability to get it out there, provided Ford doesn't play dirty tricks again by trying to limit advertising, etc.

Now imagine if the Cons collapsed at the federal level. Our media in Ontario refers to Marit Styles as the “Ontario opposition leader” and Not her name unfortunately. Now imagine if the media did the same to PP by referring to him as the “Canadian opposition leader” ?

Speaking of Stiles, she came out against the Canada-China agreement this AM as it apparently endangers Ontario autoworkers or some such. "Selling out" our industry I think she called it. Disappointing and short-sighted reaction from a party that sorely needs to improve their support in the province.

Leading the polls compared to what? The Liberals are in a leaderless disarray, the NDP blew its shot last time, and the Greens are going nowhere have one seat. If the poll question is do you approve of the Premier, then sure he's surely down. But if the question is, which leader and party are you likely to vote for in 2029, I expect if they're honest the Ford OPCs will still come up tops. If you have no competition, the polls don't matter. Ford is basically Premier until he doesn't want to do it.

Andrea Horwath had better name recognition, certainly.

Then it seems most are fine with Ford’s Corruption and probably want him to govern until he is 90 years old? Just like Azerbaijan’s Aliyev or the Turkmen president

A few weeks ago Liason published a poll they ran Dec 5-7 2025 which also asked about voting intentions:

"If a provincial election were held today, Doug Ford’s PCs would lead the Ontario Liberals by nine points among decided and leaning voters, 44% to 35%. While the PCs hold strong leads in Eastern Ontario (54%) and Southwestern Ontario (52%), the Liberals are ahead in the 416 (45%) and the North (40%), and are currently leading in the 905 (44%).

The Toronto and Northern results are unsurprising, but the 905 figure would represent a dramatic turnaround given the PCs’ consistent lead there. That said, it should be treated cautiously unless and until subsequent surveys confirm it."

...weird, the OLP hasn't chosen a leader yet...but they're polling at 35%. Which may mean if someone competent with an ounce of charisma takes the reigns could flip those numbers in their favour.
