Woodbine Centre

Several disgruntled visitors have been leaving poor reviews on google for the lack of rides and AC working in the Fantasy Fair for quite some time now.
Apparently, 1/3rd of the rides weren't in operation before the fair closed.

Maybe the faulty A.C., mall's temporary closure and the fair malfunctioning is due to the ghost of Closeout King refusing to let the Woodbine sell....

The only thing the previous owner regrets is not selling off the Fantasy Fair rides or scrapping them for metal lol.
Refurbishment is often better than scrapping. There's always someone somewhere wanting to own fair rides...especially those fly by night businesses that like to set up at random shopping mall parking lots for a short time here and there.

The previous owner tried selling the mall and fair together as a niche product. The prospective buyer would be purchasing more than a shopping centre, they'd
be acquiring a dying mall with an oversized playground attached. A niche item that the previous owner believed secured him the right, based on his experience
owning the mall for x amount of years, to choose a suitable party that would overtake the mall under his supervision.

For all we know, that mindset may very well still be intact: selling the mall and fair as one unit for a bigger payout.

i have not been to woodbine since 2012 i think

i went there with college friends to watch movies at the woodbine indie owned movie theater where the movie tickets were cheap

Recently, I happened to step foot in Woodbine for the first time since April.

Like many remaining shops, S & H Health Foods, a Woodbine staple for decades, is now running a store closing sale.

The lifesize standee of bodybuilder/Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno has stood in that window for as long as I can remember.

The tractor trailers are still lined up along the front parking lot, as are the missing letters that continue to remain pried from the
Maggiano's sign. While seven months have passed on the outside, time seems at a perpetual standstill inside the Woodbine
Center.

With every visit I continue to remain surprised that the mall is still standing. Then again, what mall in their right mind would shut
down with Christmas just around the corner?

Three good reasons to keep it alive. Dollarama is a nice touch also. The Bay was a strong anchor, but notice how it didn't even become a clearance centre in it's last breath?
The Bay had some faith in the idea that a regular department store could still do well in the Woodbine centre.
The next chapter for Woodbine centre depends on what goes in where the Bay used to be.
Hopefully not another liquidation centre store!!

A Walmart is needed, also woodbine mall is lacking a dine-in restaurant...OH WAIT it was going to have on, but it didn't happen...oh well 😒

Wal-Mart wouldn't move into the woodbine Centre. It would demolish the mall in order to fit a super center there.
Then again, the Wal-Mart just down the street at Rexdale and Islington seems to be doing fine for the last 22 years.

The bay or where Zellers use to be, would be perfect for a Walmart...if they really cared

the real three reasons are 1)Dollarama 2)TD Bank & 3) Freedom Mobile store. , everything else is useless at Woodbine hahaha...

There is no point in having such an anchor move in when the mall is in such poor shape. The few brands that are left do not warrant the entire place running. They can easily locate if needed and either have a cheap lease as it stands, or they don’t and they won’t renew upon their expiry.

The Bay was not making money at that location, but they were running off an original lease from when the mall opened. It would be more costly to break the lease. In today’s market, they were paying practically nothing to lease a store that size.

Fantasy Fair is what sets it apart, and it would be nice to see a revival there to see what sort of traffic comes in as a result.

The bay wasn't paying lease, since they already paid the big lease in 1985 when it opened???

They were paying a relatively low monthly rent. They were not paying nothing. In the end, they did get to walk away from their lease arrangement since you can't get blood from a stone. 🤣
