Redpath Sugar Refinery | 95 Queens Quay East

There are certain big safety concerns with a sugar refinery in this location. Google "industrial dust explosions". There is a reason why the condo that was built directly to the west of this plant has a thick blast wall on its eastern elevation.

A sugar explosion sounds like the most delightful way to go!

Superb shots of the refinery, @hawc.

While I do love that this still exists in a completed changed waterfront area, I'd love for them to make some changes for the benefit of the public, including more murals on Queens Quay facing buildings/silos, a nicer looking fence (as mentioned) and a wider sidewalk, which is sorely needed. It should be at least double the width for the amount of people that use it on the weekends. Often people are spilling over to the multi-use trail, as the existing sidewalk is only wide enough for 3 people. I realize sidewalks aren't Red Path's responsibility, but this would likely need coordination with them for some of their land, since there isn't room on the road side unless you were to eliminate that dead lane that I can only assume is for trucks to wait if there's no room on the driveway at the gate. Seems like the only piece of land that Red Path might take issue with donating to the city is right in front of the mural building, as they have a driveway using the entire space.

CSL (Canada Steamship Lines) Welland being unloaded this early morning 26/01/14, one of the last ships to transit the St. Lawrence Seaway after major ice delays forcing the seaway to stay open past its seasonal closing date. The sugar was loaded in Quebec which was previously offloaded from foreign owned Deepsea ships.
