The leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Denmark just issued the below tepid statement in response to Trumps threat to annex Greenland. In essence they say the future of Greenland should be decided by the people of Greenland and Denmark instead of declaring that if Trump followed through with his threat that would be the end of NATO which is the logical conclusion. In the era of Trump NATO is irrelevant. Anyone with half a brain can figure that out. Under Trump the United States is not a mutual protector. It is a PREDITOR and we Canadians need to wake up to this FACT (although it is probably too late).

Noticeably absent in this joint statement is Mark Carney who flew to Europe to meet with European leaders yesterday, so no doubt Carney was at this meeting. Our "fearless" leader is terrified to do or say anything that could raise the ire of the deranged pedo-President.

They will likely hold the University Rosedale and Edmonton Riverbend byelections at the same time. Since University Rosedale most likely will go Liberal unless there is a vote split or good NDP candidate or something like that, Edmonton Riverbend will be important and the outcome of it will determine the balance of power.

So are we distancing ourselves from the complete dependence on the US for trade? Or do we continue letting them dictate our trade policy? At some point a decision has to be made. But if Carney manages to straddle that line and somehow both diversify our trade partners and keep the White House retaliation to a minimum, then kudos to him.

I am not suggesting what Carney is doing is a negative. Diversification is a good goal. I sympathize with the tough hand he's been dealt.

Anything these days triggers a reaction from the US. Personally we may as well FAFO as opposed to trying to tip-toe around a country that will just decide to invade us on a whim anyway. We need to remove ourselves of our reliance on them.
