Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

It is going to the TMC, but that's likely a temporary measure until ONR can send equipment down to take it the rest of the way up to North Bay or Cochrane.

Dan
I've been consistently told by ONR crew and staff that they will be stored/maintained at TMC. They will 'overnight' in the Cochrane yard.

Think of it like the Via for Windsor. They overnight in Windsor, but are based out of TMC or MMC.

Are the renovations complete so the TMC can accept Siemens equipment? I was under the understanding that the ONR trainsets were going to be delivered to the MMC for acceptance and evaluation.

Might have been cheaper to take a more southern route if that was the case.

A random thought.
A lot of comments on Facebook when pictures of the new trans, and a few comments here, has me wondering about the future if this is as successful as it is hoped to be. Specifically the discussion on the lack of sleepers. Via has yet to announce the actually plan to replace the LDF. My guess would be 5-10+ years from now is when the last of them would arrive. When the Northlander was announced, they tacked on to the Via order with the new trains being serviced in the TMC.

So, if the Northlander is a success, and the number of buses are kept the same and they are as busy as they are now, could we see the province order a few trains that have sleepers that match Via's future order? In effect, not only bring back the Northlander, but the Northland as well? Or, order the Sleepers and sell the Siemens fleet to Via?

The waybill has it destined for the TMC. Any movements beyond that will be the responsibility of ONR, likely in concert with VIA. And at this time, no one at VIA is aware of it headed for MMC.

The work at the for the new facility at the TMC is still ongoing. But the improvements at the MMC are still ongoing, too.

Good background! Could it be headed to Willowbrook, considering it is a Provincial facility? From there ONR could get it up north.

It could, but it isn't. The intel on where it is headed (ie TMC) comes from reliable internal sources.

Plus, I doubt the good folks at Willowbrook would know what they are looking at, but the VIA forces already know where all the breakers and levers are.

Getting it routed from the TMC to North Bay is actually pretty easy to arrange. CN knows these trains well already.....and it will be a revenue move for CN.

Looks like the Northlander’s train should be at VIA TMC very soon.

If it physically shows up at one of the ONR yards I'm going to have to turn off social media for a while because everybody will be beaking off about why hasn't service started yet.
I/m betting once people realize one is in Toronto, they will be doing the same. Since I was told May,I will hold off questioning the opening day till May 31, 2026. After that,I will sound like most people on the Eglinton forums about Line 5.

That raises an interesting question - why couldn't ONR pick it up from the TMC themselves? Surely they have trackage rights over the CN Bala sub and Metrolinx Bala sub, no?

These trains will be maintained in Toronto not North Bay. This is because TMC is a Siemens maintenance facility. It's not worth it to build another facility In North Bay for three trainsets.
